Does anyone know what causes this po171- sytem adaptive fuel to lean?
I changed out the fuel regulator because it kept letting the fuel pump cycle
trying to pressurize the system. It worked. Chaged out the fuel injector O rings because two were leaking. Truck runs like crap, acts like the accelerator is a few seconds delayed when you give it gas, sputters at higher rpms. Help! runaround

What engine?
Have you tested your fuel system pressure and fuel filter?
What is the fuel trim/block learn readings?

Sorry, I must have had a brain fart. It's a 2.2 / 5 speed. I did not see any #'s on fuel rail. I replaced the fuel filter a couple of days ago. I do not have a fuel pressure gauge. The fuel pump pumps up every couple of seconds while running. I stated it this morning and it would hardly run at idle. Tried reving it to 3000 rpm's and it would drop from 3000 to 2500 back to 3000 constantly without me moving my foot off the gas. Vin# 1GCCS1949T8194309. I hope this helps.
Thanx

Any other codes?

Just checked it. Now PO335 - crank positon sensor circuit came up. This truck is going to be the death of me.

Code Po335 need checked out.
Crankshaft position sensor or circuit or wiring.
Check connections and wiggle wiring.
If it acts up on wire wiggle check connection.

Tracked wires through wiring harness. Found harness laying against exhaust right below O2 sensor. Wire probably over heated causing PO335 code. No damage to wires. Truck running again but old code PO171 still active. Will accelerate if gas pedal moved slowly. Acts like its choked out if gas pedal pressed down quickley (sputters at low rpm without any acceleration).

In answer to your pm.
You will find your post here.
Check fuel pressure running on the road and post back readings.
Clear codes and see what comes back.

What is the condition of the Flexi-Joint in the exhaust right behind the manifold? Air leakage there can artificially skew the O² sensor lean, and cause that DTC.

How old is the O²? The '96 still used a non-heated, one wire sensor, and they can start to weaken at as little as 60-80,000 miles.
