Just picked up an '89 240 5spd. Going through the usual damage control due to age and neglect. Doing the clutch, probably lightweight flywheel, and wondering about the transmission itself - my 3rd gear isn't too happy being shifted into too quickly. Is it normally possible to change JUST the syncros in these transmissions, or since the thing has 132,000 should I just have the entire transmission rebuilt?

I haven't even entertained the thought of the short-throw shifter due to 3rd gear morale. I'll end up trashing it all the way if I go that far with it. Other than 3rd gear the tranny is solid. No bearing noise so far or anything.

Pardon my noobnonimous post. Looked for questions like this one and found JACK SQUAT!!!
