Revell/Tamiya BMW 325i

Bear with me guys, I have a new camera and have never really posted detailed photos of some of models before. One more for tonight: Tamiya's and Revell's BMW 325i.

I've built both. The blue one is Revell's (built around 1997) and the red one is Tamiya's (built in 2001). I learned from my mistakes on the Revell one when I built the Tamiya. They are the same kit, just Tamiya has better tires. The only thing I recommed is attaching part E68 (see pic) to the body before painting. Do NOT attached the bumper at the same time. Attach it at the very end. Also, shave the back of the headlight buckets...they are too thick. With the appropriate cleanup, you'll get a much better fit (you can see the difference in the photo).

A couple more things: 1) the kidney grills are too big for the opening and almost always break when trying to put them in. 2) this was my first example at panel-lining...and yes, the panel lines are VERY BLACK. I've since learned.

Don't ask me why I have French plates and a Deutschland "D" sticker. Maybe the imaginary owner is from the Alsace-Lorraine region. :grinyes:

Tamiya one still looks better, lol.

Nice the red one came out really clean, can't wait to start on mine.

very cool model, although the only dissapointing part might be the rims... I have this kit too, but found it quite interesting, thanks for pointing out the flaws and the way to fix them!

Yeah, I never liked the rims, and they are a bit wobbly on the model. The rears stick out a bit. The Hasegawa BMW's are supposed to be better, even though they lack engine detail. However, they're hard to come by.

Nice beemer! Got to love those "alter if necessary" and "carefully modify" comments in Tamiya instructions, tells something about the fit of the Revell parts :lol:

Nice build! I noticed the third stoplight you added in rear windshield. Very nice indeed!

Despite the flaws such as bad fitting and some flaws in design I always liked those BMW E36 kits. I have a couple now in my collection and now when I saw your build I feel that I must take up my E36 Touring build now witch has been sitting too long on my workbench.

Bumping an old thread, but very nicely done! Have to ask, do the Revell / Tamily models come with the Engine? I have the Dragon M3 to build someday, and it has no engine. I could easily make yours look like a USA S50 engine. (like my daily driver)

I especially like the paint job.

I built the tamiya version a while ago when I was younger. Had I known that the kit is rare, I would've saved it from my younger destructive hands :D
