Replacing fuel filter on a 2002 xterraRotorman 06-12-2007, 01:12 PM Hello there, just got finished replacing a fuel filter on a 2002 non supercharged 3.3 xterra. Took me 2 1/2 hrs learn form my mistakes. Highly advised you jack up truck behind rear passenger door. Have less than 1/2 tank of fuel and leave gas tank cap off to reduce internal pressure. tools on hand : 3/8 rachet with 10mm socket, medium size phillps screwdriver, protective goggles for your eyes, spray lubricate to loosen bolts, needle nose pliers, 1 3/16 vaccum cap to stop the fuel near your head & put this cap on the old filter pinicle. also have a oil pan to catch your gas! you'll lose about a quart. after jacking truck up near max range. Take 15 amp fuse from top left hand corner out. start truck till it stops do this 2 more times.Take cap off gas tank get under truck on the rear passenger side, and remove 3 bolts with the rachet and 10 mm socket. Then loosen stainless steel clamps with the phlippshead screwdriver. Pull out one hose at a time and put the new filter. This is where you need the vacuum cap to stop the flow. beware nissan does not give you extra fuel line going into the filter. This will be tough due to limited access. the rest is obvious, and have extra dry rags and paper towels, you will need it. I hope this gives you the inside track on getting this job done in 30 minutes or less. Good luck have a great hot shower to get the gas off your body.
