dead battery (twice!) after 4 days??

Hi:

Love my 2006 Tucson; HOWEVER, for the second time that I've left it at the airport while I've been away for 4-5 days I've come back to a dead battery. I can possibly understand the battery dying after maybe a few weeks of not being driven, but 4 days??? I'm thinking maybe there could be a problem with the electrical system, or perhaps the battery but it's brand new.

Of course I'm calling my dealer today to get it checked out, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this same thing.

Most likely you have a short somewhere, causing one or more things to receive current after the car is turned off, draining the battery. They are usually hard to pin-point so taking it to an electrical specialist is the only route sometimes.

Thanks for the reply! I plan to take it to the dealer this week. I have a bad habit of leaving the headlights in the 'on' position, since the lights do turn off automatically when you turn off the engine so perhaps that's draining the battery.

hey kmh, I am a member of another hyundai tucson forum (tucsondrivers.com) and a member had a very similar instance I believe.

It became a huge 'kerfuffel' and eventually lawyers were involved because the dealer couldn't find the problem. The car fell under the "lemon law" since it was new, and corporate Hyundai was forced to offer him a new Tucson. I sincerely hope you do not have the same fate as this, and check tucsondrivers.com for that post!

If its any consolation, I doubt it is your headlight settings becasue I always leave mine on as well (they automatically turn off) and have never had a problem with the battery.
