On my 98 Honda Civic, the rear brakes squeak, especially after the car has been sitting overnight. I just pulled the drums and can't see anything wrong. Shoes have lots of life left and drums are smooth. Tried applying a bit of anti-seeze compound on the 4 surfaces where the shoes rest on the backing, but still get the squeak. (Might not have gotten the compound onto the complete mating surfaces). Anyone have this problem and solution?

Same thing with my '97. Maybe 20% warn. I sprayed break cleaner on them and let them dry. I adjust the rear brakes by hand. They're supposed to be self adjusting but I did it manually. Tightened them up a little bit. Got them to the point that the drum no longer loosely slid off an on but was a hint snug. Squeek & squeeling's gone.

I'm thinking beeing too loose allowed too much vibration at breaking and made them squeek.

Thanks for the tips. I tightend the brake manually on the passenger side (it had some slack), but the driver side was OK. I also regreased the contact points, 6 places. Seems better. Hope this fixes the problem

You could also grind down the corner edges of each shoe. Some front brake pads are starting to have this aready done when you purchase them.
