Its the F1, ____, M1 and M3 CSL. Anyone know whats the car between the Mac and the M1? Also, any close ups of that M3 GTR?

It's a BMW GTP that raced in IMSA. Specifically the March 86g chassis with a BMW powerplant. In fact, you can purchase a March 86g that was a BMW North America car here: http://www.johnstarkeycars.com/pages/for_sale/March86G10.html

Except that car ran a different sponsor the years after BMW and with a Buick engine. Not sure if you can track down a BMW engine for that anymore.

Interesting...didn't know BMW raced in GTP. Thanks for the M3 GTR pic. Why does it say "McLaren North America"? I thought they only came together for the building of the F1...

BMW raced the car in the IMSA racing series. The name of the car is "BMW GTP." edit- just looked some stuff up and apparently it raced under the GTP IMSA category before the GTP category fell.

As to your last question, I don't know why it says McLaren North America on it. It could be that McLaren car tuner in the US that tuned that Dodge Viper recently, which isn't affiliated in any way with McLaren in Surrey/Woking. Who knows, maybe BMW was working with them. :)

I see...As for the "McLaren North America"...the plot thickens...:lol: I'm assuming you mean the Diamondback Viper (http://www.diseno-art.com/encyclopedia/vehicles/road/modified_cars/ASC_Diamondback_Viper_Mclaren.html)? Can any of our experts shed any light on this, I'm very curious now...

Hmm...another ex-BMW race car for sale mentions McLaren a lot. Says McLaren North America was in charge of the this team at one point.

Yes, that's the same car. Where was that picture taken? A private collection or BMW's?

Btw, I'm fairly certain it is the same McLaren as the one in the UK so it's pretty cool how 10+ years later they would work together on the F1. Of course before Mercedes got involved with McLaren.

It's also pretty similar to how BMW was involved with Sauber back in the 80s when racing at LeMans with the C7 in the early 80s once again before Mercedes got involved with Sauber (with the C9 and C11). Of course today BMW is back with Sauber after buying them out. ;)

That picture was taken inside PTG Racing in Winchester, VA. They used to campaign the factory M3 V8 racing cars for BMW and kept and prepared a lot of their older racing cars including F1 GTR #17R.
