Review- Martini Colors by Zero

Just received them from Steve: I'm so excited that I wanna share: I searched from ages and finally lately a friend said me codes used by a Body Shop that painted a good 50% of all motorsport lancias. I have to try by airbrush (I'm used with the superb texture and coverage of Zero's base) but they seem to match well Martini's colors. Dunno know if there are other people that would paint martini strips (at least I have cos I plan to do stuff scratchbuilted, no decals): BTW I guess Hiroboy would build a combo with his white, useful to paint several cars.

Once a time thanks a lot Steve for the superb quality color mixing and for the quick and great customer service.

Soon with the first attempt ;) zzluurrrp.

Steve's custom paint mixes come in 60ml bottles. Easy way to tell is his 30ml bottles have a black cap seen here (http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=46&products_id=1409) and his 60 (http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=46&products_id=866),100 (http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=46&products_id=1050),250 (http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=46&products_id=1510) ml bottles have a clear cap.

The thought of masking and painting those stripes gives me the shivers!

Great packaging Steve! I really like/appreciate the design touches - it really adds to the whole purchase experience
(that's not a reason to hike your prices though!! ;) :evillol:)

Guys I have a question. With your experience how many cars can be done with one bottle(60ml)? Never used pre-thinned paintings so I need your advices. Thanks!

To be honest I purchased several but I completely finished only 1 body shell with zzero colors: the murcielago (arancio atlas) and I used half bottle, so the answer may be two, 3 if you're cheap with colors.

Then call me cheap  I allready painted two and I have paint for maybe even two more.
Funniest thing is that I used a lot more for 599 then for 575, it looked like I couldn't cover 599 as good as 575 so I had to apply two or three coats more, on same primer, only difference is resin/plastic which should not make the difference :screwy: or is it me  .

I messed up a Tamiya PGT, meaning I painted the :banghead: thing 2 times... and... I still have around 50-60% left in the bottle  .
I think it mainly depends on what type of color you are using. Mainly the coverage capabilities. The color I used for the PGT is Porsche Cobalt Blue on Mr Surfacer 1200 grey.

Thanks guys. I know that depends, different colors, different people and different cars cause different ml, I just need a main idea to decide how many should I buy once, the quantity should probably match the number of my projects. To me 1 mist coat followed by 2~3 wet coats will cover the whole body very well (red on white primer surface), so I guess the conclusion will be approx 3 cars per bottle. Thanks again!

Tang, I have found that by painting only the left hand side of my models, I can in fact get 6 cars out of one bottle.

Steve, what about BMW colors?
Tang, there is no need for "wet" coat with Zero paints. They are matt - require clearcoat, so 1 light and 1-2 heavier mist coats is enough, then you clearcoat.

You stealed words from my mouth ;) Yep, despite with the lambo's arancio atlas (pearl) I painted more: until I didn't seen any changes, I guess 5 or 6 hands.

I think he meant the typical BWM colours:

Julian, what color is that light blue stripe on there? Do you know? Does anyone know?

I guess it´s the same as on the BMW-badge and that would be "Santorinblau".
German colour code is RAL 5015. ;-)

So... How would I go about ordering, lets say, Impalabraun Metallic? Do I just send you BMW code?

Thanks Julian - I have that link funnily enough (thye actually call the color by that code "Himmelblau".

Steve mixed me a batch and believe me, it looks nothing like the blue stripe on that car :( It is much darker.

Appreciate your help though  maybe santoriniblau is an option for me (or that very sexy Martini blue of yours Gio :evillol:)

Hiroboy

I can mix 327 Santorinblau II from 1997 or 318 Santorinblau from 1994

1. Steve, I hope you didn't read that as a criticism of your mix!! Your mix is spot on! (I put a test spray next to a 1/1 BMW badge :evillol:). I just meant that the color is darker than the one in the photo.

2. Tang, you were asking how much painting from a bottle.

Here's a 30 ml bottle of zero paints. I have used the amount you can see marked off to give the entire bodywork of my M1 2,5 coats of paint (lightish) and I won't be putting any more down on it. White over white primer. I added about 20% Mr. Levelling thinner to the paint. Hope that gives you some indication :)
