2000 Beetle AC quits blowing cold airYipperboy 06-06-2007, 10:34 PM My 2000 VW Beetle's AC works fine until the car comes to a stop or in slow traffic( the air then gets warm), then once I speed up it blows cold air once again. I assume the compressor stops when the car isn't moving.PLEASE HELP!!! Yipperboy 06-07-2007, 07:32 PM Hey, the AC starting working correctly out of the blue? I'll keep my fingers crossed. I did have Autozone turn off a engine light (P0510) and then I noticed that the AC started working correctly. Probably just a coincidence?????? hako 06-08-2007, 08:31 AM Sounds like the engine cooling fan wasn't switching in when the A/C was on - there is a relay for the cooling fan under the battery that can fail, also the fuses on top of the battery can corrode badly. veedubmechanic 06-10-2007, 09:01 PM check those fuses on top of the battery 4stripes 08-02-2007, 03:34 PM My 2000 Beetle had an intermittant problem with the AC. Turned out to be the 30 amp fuse holder located on top of the battery cover. Maybe corrosion caused a poor contact, but the holder began to distort. When this fuse is out, the fans & AC stop working! It was an easy fix. My holder just needed some contact cleaner and a new fuse (the old one was "fused" on one prong, so it broke on removal). Cheers Eric Yipperboy 08-03-2007, 05:33 AM I appreciate you guys, Hako, Veedubmechanic & 4Stripes for your advice. It's great you guys take the time to help us confused VW owners out. 450 miles after the "engine light" was turned off by Autozone, it came back on and the AC quit working correctly again. I purchased a VW/Audi GS200 scanner on ebay(costs $30) and after I plugged it in and erased the engine light, the AC works perfect again. The scanner also erased the SRS (airbag) light. The car runs great, the engine light that comes on says "closed trottle position." Not sure if this is important? Thanks guys again for your help.
