wont shift out of parkTagahoe 06-03-2007, 04:32 PM I cant get my tahoe to shift out of park sometimes. it feels like im not stepping on the brake pedal to shift out of park. any ideas?:screwy: jdl 06-04-2007, 10:20 AM May not make any difference, but, what year and engine size? The problem may be with the shift interlock system. Sometimes the brake switch may cause a problem. I'm not saying replace it. Tagahoe 06-07-2007, 09:05 PM 1998 2 door tahoe 5.7L 4wd automatic. it didnt happen for a whole day, but it happend again today. 777stickman 06-08-2007, 10:13 AM Try this--Turn the key one click from the locked position. The tranny shift indicator light should come on. You should be able to move the shift lever without stepping on the brake. If you can move it turn the key one more click to the run position. You should not be able to move it without stepping on the brake with it in the park position. The 1st step removes the physical lock from the ignition switch without applying power to the shift/interlock solenoid. The 2nd step applies power to the solenoid and when the brake light switch is activated removes the power. Let us know..............Steve yellow93lx 06-08-2007, 04:36 PM Thanks for the help. My Tahoe was stuck half in the street and I could not get it out of park. I used the steps 777 said and I was able to get it moved. My brake lights are not working so I think the switch under the dash on the brake peddle is bad. My tahoe is a 2000 Z71 5.7 4WD which is the same body style as the 1999. http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u214/yellow93lx/Boat/Mastercraft011-1.jpg yellow93lx 06-09-2007, 08:50 PM I replaced the switch on the brake peddle today and I can now shift out of park when the Tahoe is running. My brake lights are working fine now. I would recomend getting a new clip that holds the switch on the peddle so you don't have to worry about messing up the old one when taking it off. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
