Hi!

I have an old Honda 1988 civic LX sedan with 185,000 miles. I just noticed that smoke comes out the exhaust when I start the car, but after I drive it for about 5 to 10 miles, the smoke goes away. I'm not sure if this has always happend, or if I just noticed it. But I do know that there is a little distinct smell like oil when the smoke comes out. The smoke is grey in color, and I even just changed the oil yesterday. What's wrong with my car? and should I be concerned?

Another problem that I have (rarely happens - 1 out of 50 tries) my car has trouble starting up as I turn the key. I have to keep trying the ignition for about a minute or so before it starts up. I would appreciate if someone can help me with these car problems.

Sincerely,
Jeff

I'm not sure...I bought this used car about a month and a half ago. Would a tune-up fix this problem? and how much do tune-ups usually cost?

well change the oil and the oil filter then change the spark plugs and the wires.

Do tune-ups include changing oil filters or do I have to do this separately? Man, this is getting tiring spending money on this bucket.

Man, I could have bought your car...I paid just as much for this piece of junk. SHoot, if your car is still for sale by the end of the year, I'll definitely buy it.

a full tune up consists of; fuel filter, air filter, oil filter, oil change, new spark plugs, new plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. and your intermittent starting problem could be your main relay... starter.. ignitor.. without more info its hard to say

I took my car to the auto mechanic, had a tune-up, changed the o-rings and changed these valves that caused oil to drip onto my sparkplugs. Smoke still comes out of my exhaust pipe when I rev the car. Along with the smoke comes what looks like oil coming out from the exhaust, but the oil drips like water. What's going on?

thats probably just the water from your cat getting dirty from all the carbon in your exhaust. have you done a compression test yet? if you just had your head rebuilt, it may be in your bottom end.
