Power seat and remote mirrors are wired 'always hot'. Why aren't power windows wired so there is power to them at all times?
What, non of these marketing/engineer types ever removed the key, started to get out only to discover they forget to roll the windows up??

Now, before someone says that since these are high current devices that could/would draw down a battery or cause the motor to overheat and burnout or cause a fire if any of those switches 'stuck' or shorted out; the same could be said about the power seat (both circuits are on a 25 amp fuse). It wouldn't be hard to design a safety timer circuit where if it senses a 'held' switch for more than x seconds, it would remove power from that circuit.

The only other thing I could think of is some unknown issue with kids in the car, but if you aren't there and neither is the key, why are they?

Enlighten me please.

If a contact gets stuck for some reason you don't want your window open. Think how easy it would be for a thief to stick a coathanger in your door jamb, push the button, and get into your car. That would make access way too easy. Not to mention if the switch did screw up and the window went down, your car is now open to the elements and other stuff.

In addition I think I read somewheres awhile back that it does have something to do with kids, (and probably some adults too.) It is a safety item that prevents the windows from being accidentally opened or closed by a child who might wander into the car or an unsuspecting adult, not familiar with how the windows work, accidentally opening or closing it on some body part,(fingers, head, etc.) That makes sense in that matter, and is probably one reason along with others why the windows aren't wired hot.

I know RAP solves the problem on vehicles that have it, but not all of them do.

It's just a PITA to put the key back in, turn it to the run position just because you forgot to roll the windows up.
