I have renamed my 98 JGC Christine, after the Stephen King novel. It has recently started randomly locking and unlocking the doors and turning on and off the interior lights while driving. Not a big deal in the day time but a serious nuisance once the sun sets. It seems to somewhat do it with vibrations from the road but it will do it on freah pavement as well. Sometimes she really gets mad and flicks the locks and lights rapidly. I can only assume either two wires are chaffed / pinched either to eachother or the frame but I really can't find all that uch in common with the interior lights and the power locks accept the remote keyless entry module, of which the diagrams don't go into a lot of detail. I already checked the overhead console to make sure those wires weren't chaffed against the ceiling and they were fine. My wife keeps pointing out the clicking under the dash but I am sure it's just the relay being energized. I did have trouble tracing the diagram to see what sets up the relay trigger. The Haynes for my 93 mustang has great wireing diagrams but they are pathetic for the 98 Grand Cherokee. Has anyone ever seen this or heard of this and if so, can you point me to a wire, module, Catholic priest, or just hand me a .357 mag so I can put her down with one behind the ear? :banghead:

You might want to go for the .357. About 10 years ago, I had my car in to the GM dealer for nomral maintenance. There was an elder gentleman ahead of me and I overheard his explanation of his dilema. It seems the auto power door locks would lock and unlock all on their as if a ghost were playing with the switch.

As I stood there and listened, I watched the car actually doing this. The write-up guy was fairly stunned by this. He had never heard of such a problem. I was kind of amused by the whole thing which proved to be quite entertaining.

In any event, I don't know what ever happened with gentlman's problem, but obviously such a problem is not limited soley to Jeep's. Wish I could be of more help.

Good luck.:banghead: :2cents:

Over the years, there have been a few situations like yours on this forum. Ghosts in the machine usually stem from bad grounds. It is amazing what kind of strainge things will happen when current flows backwards though a circut.

Thanks. I will have to opt for a .40 cal which doesn't seem to have the same umph as the latter. Actually, right now I have it tore down to the block, replacing the hydraulic lifters. I will go ahead and have the head checked and the valves reworked (or replaced if needed) while I have it all apart, as the head was a pain to get to with the, manifolds and AC bracket and all. Not to mention the surface cleaning involved for new gaskets. In my continuous praise for full synthetic oil I would like to point out that I can still see a little cross-hatch in the cylinders after 280,050 miles with no major engine repairs... Back on track, I will look over everything under the hood concerning wiring and grounds while the majority of the engine parts are no longer under the hood. The inside wiring will just have to wait until I have a few more days off from work. Until then the proper fuses and or relays are coming out for the sake of sanity. At least they will once I get the head back and the engine put back together.

Door jamb switch.

On mine the door pins went bad and the door wouldn't hit the switch all of the way, so every occasional bumb would cause the lights to come on and when they went off the doors would lock b/c of the auto-lock in drive thing. Check the vehicle info center next time it happens and see if it says a door is open.

:grinyes: Sweet! You know, I looked at that since the two bearings on the hindge are worn and squawk when opening and closing. A way while back I figured it was a shim issue like I had in my 93 stang but when I inspected the bearings I figured the door was lined up and just the bearings were bad. I bet there is more play in the door than I thought (wife normally drives the jeep since she totes the little people around...). Whether it's the door not holding the switch or the switch wearing out at least now I have a real good lead. Thanks. :licka: <---sorry, my 5 yr old wouldn't stop bugging me until I placed another smily...
