99 Durango Won't stay runningog style 05-31-2007, 10:54 PM The truck has work fine for me for 3 years. Today I went to leave and it would not crank over. It has been about 4 days scince I have started it. It will try to turn over for about 1 sec and stop. The battery is a year old. The lights and every thing comes on. I tried to jump start it and It will start and only run when I have my foot on the gas. When I let off the gas it dies. Does any one know what could be the problem with this? Thanks dodge girl 06-01-2007, 01:46 PM Have you checked the fuel & O2 sensors? og style 06-01-2007, 02:20 PM I think it is the Idle adjust screw. I put a shim between it and the car will stay running. On the back side of the screw there is a silver cap. Does anyone know how to remove this cap so I can adj the screw? xj31 06-04-2007, 09:47 PM Do yourself a favor,DO NOT MESS WITH THE IDLE SCREW..What do you think it adjusted itself? It sounds like you need a battery. If the battery is weak,it does exactly what you describe. og style 06-05-2007, 10:32 AM The battery is new. We took of the intake and covered it with the car running and it would not die. I had to turn the idle screw in about 1/10 of a turn to get the car at 600 rpms and to keep it running. The screw was lose. airboss20 06-06-2007, 02:06 PM I just repaired my friends durango that had the exact same problem. His battery tested good, but he had some corrosion built up on the inside of the battery terminal connectors. I know it seems hard to believe, but give them a good scrubbing with a wire brush and use a pole cleaner on the terminals. after we did that, it started with absolutely no problem. Give it a try. BTY you may have to get some lead post caps for the battery terminals to fit in the connectors again. Jabre 06-15-2007, 02:00 PM I have been having this same problem with my 99 Durango for about two months. No-one can figure it out. We have replaced the MAS air sensor. We had the entire charging system checked. It was fine. Then we upgraded the plugs and wires thinking it was running too hot because of the MSD system we had installed. None of that has corrected it permanently. It will run for 2 weeks and then I am broke down again. Let me know if you find the cause of yours. I really need this fixed. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
