2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Remote Start Then Dies

Hi all,

I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) Laredo that has a Mopar remote start installed in it. The remote start has worked well for over 6 months. Recently, however, it will remote start fine and then the engine will die after several seconds.

I don't think this is a SKIM programming problem because it just starts and stops once and does not try to do it 3 times. I know that the three failsafes on this unit (other than the SKIM not being programmed) are: hood open, brake depressed, and high RPM. The tilt switch looks okay and so does the brake switch connection. I don't think it would be either of these two anyway since it seems to die always after starting...and after about the same amount of time after each start.

I recently changed out the spark plugs in the engine just before this started happening...so I don't know if there is any connection. I have noticed that the engine RPM's seem to be a little higher now at idle right after a cold start since changing out the spark plugs (just over 1000), but I don't think that would be enough to cause a high RPM fault. The manual says that the high RPM fault happens when engine RPM is 3 times the programmed idle RPM's. I have noticed that after the car is adequately warmed up--when idle RPM's are lower (probably more like 700-800)--this doesn't seem to happen.

Has anybody heard of this before? Do you think it's the idle fault? Should I reprogram the idle level for the remote start unit or should I take the unit back to the dealer?

Any help would be appreciated...Thanks!
