My neighbors car has been going off intermittently(trunk opening and horn going off)and it is a retirement comunnity.Just a while ago I went outside for a cig when suddenly he (80`s) came at me with a knife!I called the police and this guy thinks I have some secret remote and Im doing it!I think its a town car but may be a mercury.Keyless entry and all the bells and whistles. What could it be?Are they prone to these things? If I get an answer,I`ll have to give it to the police and let them handle it.Dont want to send an old man to the pokey over this ya know?I appreciate it.

Well.. yes, some Lincoln years have had this problem with the alarm sounding on its own. The trunk opening on it's own is another story; are you sure you don't have a remote up your sleeve :)

A bad or dirty latch pin switch is usually the culprit, but which one? All doors, hood, and trunk have ajar switches.

Trunk opens and horn starts going off at the same time.running lights too.Do you think there is a tv remote that would do this?It only happens at night too.Humidity?

The alarm effects, Lights & Horn, may just be a sideshow to the trunk opening unexpectedly.

If it was mine, I would first disconnect the auto trunk popper wires, it can still be opened with the key, just to see if the problem beings there.

These things can be tough to diagnose, and not necessarily best handled by your electro-mechanic due to the intermittent nature.

Have you made any headway on the actual Year & Model? Town Car actually has Town Car logos on the sides and rear, Mercury should have same.
