Hello, how does one figure out how much his 1997 sierra 1/2 ton with a 350 engine and Z71 package can pull. We are looking for a camper but first I'd like to know how much my truck can handle. I've tried searching the net and could not find out how. I have my VIN # and I know the GVWR is 6000 to 7000 lbs. but I think that is different than the towing capacity.

The way i found what mine was is i gave the Nearest Chevy Dealer a call and gave them my vin #, after that they were able to tell me exactly what i could do with my truck and really what i couldn't, so give that a try maybe they can answer your questions also.
