94 dodge ram v8 5.9 will not reversebratt 05-26-2007, 08:03 PM i had a mechanic change all my friction plates and steels but this ram will not reverse still i heard something about an electronic brake? The ram drives forward fine but will not go in reverse and it stays in gear in nuetral i think the reverse band is too tight? does anyone have any suggestions scott83 08-26-2007, 06:35 AM hey found out what was wrong with my tranny.. when you take the pan off, on the linkage part inside the tranny there is some kind of like carter key that shifts the pressure off the drive gears that allows it to go reverse and neutral.. its up by where the linkage goes inside the tranny at.. i traded my truck and the guy that has it now has found out the problem with it.. hopefully you get it lined out bratt 08-26-2007, 11:06 AM what is a " carter key " what did he do to this carter key? did he buy a new one or just fix it? how do you fix it? I cannot shift into N or R. they both do not work scott83 08-26-2007, 11:31 PM he said its like a carter pin.. but its up by where the linkage goes from the outside of the tranny to the inside at.. the guy said that it is connected to the linkage , without this connected it wont let the transmission pressure off of your drive gears, thats why it goes forward in reverse and neutral.. just look really closely to where the linkage connects on the inside of the tranny, and you should be able to see where something has become disconnected HEMIDAZE 08-27-2007, 08:07 AM bratt 09-26-2007, 01:05 PM there is a lever with a ball joint connection that is pulled by a wire. This lever will push a button in that I believe releases the pressure. Inside the Transmission a button is pressed in when that wire is pulled. I tested it and the lever works. I believe this is the carter key he is talking about. This is not the answer to my problem though. All of that is working properly already scott83 10-16-2007, 05:44 AM yes that it what he was talking about bratt 10-16-2007, 11:17 AM The Manual says that this second lever on top is the THROTTLE CABLE. I think my valve body is bad or gummed up. My dad poured some LUCAS transmission grip into the tranmission. It looked like sandpaper water. After he did that this problem happened. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
