If not, the very least it would be is inconsiterate, and potentially dangerous. It can roll off the road and start a grass fire, or under absolutely perfect conditions it could possibly ignite a fuel leak in the car behind you, although I know that would be a VERY long shot. If you don't want to use your ash tray because you want to keep you car smelling ok (which it doesn't, non-smokers can still smell it), carry a water bottle in your cup holder with about an inch of water in it, and put the cap back on after dropping your butt in it. '97ventureowner 06-02-2007, 12:38 AM I wouldn't be surprised that California has stricter laws concerning disposal of cigarette butts because of the drought conditions and the chance for a discarded butt to ignite a fire. As you know the state's been having some problems with wildfires the past few years, and some have been traced to a haphazardly discarded cigarette butt. fredjacksonsan 06-03-2007, 02:53 PM I'd suggest calling the Clerk of the Court for your jurisdiction; they should be able to tell you what the penalty is, or point you in the right direction. As a side note, CO has a specific law against throwing your butts out the window; they had several large fires due to that in the past. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
