'66 Sleeper Beetle Turborockabilly 05-23-2007, 04:08 AM Here is my current project. Tamiya '66 Beetle with Fujimi Porsche 930 turbo engine. I am going for sleeper look, no modifications to body, it will be painted with some matte colour with rust and etc. First I fitted Porsche rear axle to beetle chassis. http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/26.4.2007%20048.jpg Then build rollcage from aluminium tube, seat is resin from Reji. Also made new gastank and place for battery in boot. http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/18.5.2007%20008.jpg http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/17.5.2007%20003.jpg Tank on left (no filler cap yet), battery place right. (lots of sanding ahead) Here engine in place, rollcage and other parts painted. http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/22.5.2007%20004.jpg http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/22.5.2007.jpg Almost all tubes from turbo are made of tinwire by me and painted black, because original parts didn't fit to beetle. Front brakediscs from rally Lancer, rear aftermarket from parts box. Backseat covered with sheet of styrene. Here pics with body and rims. http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/23.5.2007%20001.jpg http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/23.5.2007%20004.jpg evil_hanzel 05-23-2007, 05:13 AM i dont think it looks like a sleeper...:D:D if i were to see a beetle like going around the streets, i'd ster clear from it. great build!!! love the beetle:D:D gtidude 05-23-2007, 10:50 AM I AGREE, that is wicked! awesome job so far. deedlit 05-25-2007, 02:36 PM Good job so far, I like what I see :bigthumb: I also think that it doesn't look like a sleeper, the centerline rims and interior modifications make it too sporty, it looks more like a drag. I would keep the interior mods but put widened (spelling???) stock rims with slick tires. Just my :2cents: rockabilly 09-22-2007, 05:37 PM Few updates, Seat ready http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/23.5.2007%20010.jpg Drivers door is openable http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/2.7.2007%20001.jpg Body painted, going to add weathering and few decals. http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/14.9.2007%20006.jpg Also made widened steelies, not sure will I use these but these look awesome I think. http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/28.5.2007%20016.jpg rsxse240 09-22-2007, 06:17 PM I LOVE it! I have wanted to do something similar with the tammy ghia, but I ended up going with a mild street build..ehh, yours will look MUCH better than mine, I'm sure. energon 09-22-2007, 11:00 PM LOVE the widened steelies!! USE EM!!! This looks like it's gonna be awesome! You gonna do negative camber in the rear? M-Tuning 09-23-2007, 05:21 AM LOVE the widened steelies!! USE EM!!! This looks like it's gonna be awesome! You gonna do negative camber in the rear? :1: :D Mister_S13_2 09-23-2007, 09:39 AM i AGREE, USE THE STEEL WHEELS, BUT IT IS YOUR MODEL, SO USE WHAT YOU LIKE BEST, but i beg to differ, if i saw a beetle around on the streets, id go and race it right away, while fully aware that my toyota celica is about to get owned :D, but this is awsome, KP60 09-24-2007, 05:50 PM go for the black widened steelies, they look great:evillol: 924_CarreraGTS 09-24-2007, 06:04 PM This looks amazing. The old Beetles are utterly cool, and this is 200% cooler than any I've seen yet in real life. The engine is a perfect and very proper choice. I can't wait to see this beast finished. Alex stryfe101 09-25-2007, 07:52 AM Widened Steelies FTW!! but even if you don't use those, this will still look great, awesome idea too, and great execution. Keep up the great work. Gray kanedge 09-28-2007, 08:37 AM This is great, I do like the chrome wheels but I think the steelies would set it off. rockabilly 10-05-2007, 03:15 PM Steelies in place, widened tamiya rims back, stock gunze rims with tamiya caps in front. Also added monstergauge on dashboard. http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/4.10.2007%20009.jpg Made safetank and place for battery to boot. http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/4.10.2007%20011.jpg energon 10-05-2007, 07:27 PM See!! Those wheels look PERFECT on there!! This is looking better all the time! tonioseven 10-05-2007, 11:03 PM Coolness!! :sunglasse CeeElle 10-06-2007, 01:53 AM widened steelies for sure... and i'd even go with the stock seats, and paint the cage flatblack to minimize its appearance if you really want the sleeper look. sweet build. deedlit 10-06-2007, 02:33 AM Nice work  How did you widden the rear rims? With a styrene sheet around the rim? rockabilly 10-06-2007, 08:51 PM Thanks for comments, maybe takes few weeks until next update. Rims are made using suitable plastic tube that is put around original rim, just cutted proper piece of tube and glued that on to rim and painted. momocorrado 10-21-2007, 08:36 PM nice work:thumbsup: gtirob01 10-21-2007, 09:48 PM As Paris Hilton would say.... "That's hot!" I want one! rockabilly 12-08-2007, 01:06 PM Ok, going far from sleeper. Chassis and interior almost ready, only exhaust pipe and some cleaning to do. Added some sensors to engine and wires from them to engine control unit which is connected to laptop. Currently finishing body, so this will be complete soon. http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/5.12.2007%20014.jpg http://koti.mbnet.fi/jake86/gallery/pictures/5.12.2007%20020.jpg prortiz80 12-08-2007, 06:24 PM I Love The LAP TOP CAN U SHOW ME HOW U MADE IT SO I COULD HAVE ONE FOR MY WIP AllAlone.Gz 12-29-2007, 07:33 AM Hahahaha!
