headlights...

Is there a big enough difference in the shape of the headlights from an 88+ CRX and 86/87 Civic hatchback that I couldn't easily install Altezza headlights for an 88 CRX on my 86 Civic hatch?

They won't fit.
...Unless you use tons of Bondo and bailing wire.
The 88-91 lights are shorter, wider, have a completely different contour and different mounting brackets.
Please don't put these headlights on your car, or any other car. Remember, friends don't let friends rock Altezzas.

What about the turn signals on the front bumper, are they similar? Also, is there a better way to update my headlights with a clear lens style light instead of trying to rig up the 88's?

Here are a few pics of the EDM 1st gen CRX headlights and corner lights that I had on my CRX. They bolt right in and are much brighter than stock.

Nothing from a 2nd gen CRX will fit on a 1st gen except the wheels, it is a completely different car.

Thanks for the reply, but after doing a little research these lights still won't bolt directly onto a Civic...any other suggestions though?

If you are referring to the EDM lights, yes they will bolt right in so long as you get the EDM Civic lights. The CRX and Civic lights are different in design, but so long as you have the correct headlight for your car there will be no swap issues. The only modification I had to do was drill a 3/4" hole in the radiator support so I could access the adjustment screw.
Where are you getting this information and why are you so set on changing the headlights?

I got my info from an ad where a guy posted CRX EDM's and said in the ad that they would not work on a Civic. So I tried to find any info on Civic EDM's and found nothing. The reason that I want a different headlight is for the most basic reason...brighter light at night. I already swapped out my lamps for Silver Stars and it helped, but it still has a long way to go to even come close to my 06' Durango. It's not even like my headlights are scratched up, they actually look very clear, they just don't have that nice white, bright light that I want. Between this and the engine swap info, it's no wonder there aren't many 3rd gens still around!!! And that was the primary reason I liked it to start is the fact they are so uncommon nowadays. Thanks for all your help lxnder with both threads.

He's right the CRX headlights won't fit on a Civic. I was trying to suggest EDM CIVIC lights, but didin't make that clear. Have you tried www.redpepperracing.com?
The EDM lights are much brighter than stock but probably still not nearly as bright as your Durango lights.
You can remove your headlights (not as easy as it sounds) then fill them with Simple Green and water, shake them up then rinse them out. This will clean the reflector and make them a little brighter. I tried this before I got the EDM's and it helped a little. You could also add aftermarket driving lights.
I know the stock headlights absolutely suck, but trying to get aftermarket 88+ headlights to work will be a nightmare. Also the quality of aftermarket parts is never as good as OEM parts. If I were you, I'd hold out for the EDM's or add driving lights.
BTW, where did you find the ad for EDM lights? I'm looking for another set.

I haven't been on here for a while and I realize this is an old thread....but you could buy yourself a set of Hella projector beams. Manufacture your own bracket and you would have great headlights. These are for a CRX but process would be similar. JS

Thanks for your reply, I am interested in knowing more about doing this but I need more info. Do I mount my OEM glass in front? Does the end product have a more finished look or is the "roughed in" look my only option?

The upper picture is the finished product without a covering clear lens. I had planned to use a scratch resistant Lexan cut to shape but have not completed it yet. I needs a bit of tweaking to mount properly. The lights do get very hot and I was concerned about possibly melting the Lexan. I still wish to use it to prevent the lenses from getting hit by a rock as they are expensive to replace. JS

Cool, let me know how that works out for you. It sure would be nice if a company would start to put out a few pre-1988 options for those of us that want to customize our "not-so-common" civics. You know, like lights, body kits, replica spoilers like the OE Si option had...I would LOVE to track one of those down and I know I'm not the only one. Also, how do you post pics on here? I want to display my before and afters of all the hard work I've done on my ride to date. I think I'm gonna have the rear light panels tinted to match the black paint and just murder my sh*t out completely. It's looking good and I wanna share with you guys.

It may be a while til I get back at the lights but will post here when I do.
As far as pictures go you can do it right in the reply window using the icons and enclosing the url of the picture in the [IMG]http://blah blah[IMG] tags that are placed there for you. I left one keystroke out so that you could see what it looks like. You have to have a third party host the picture for you. Lots of sites available for that.
If you are looking for an OEM 87 Si spoiler I have one for sale. It is missing one stud and has a very slight blemish as in a small bulge which is hardly noticeable and is red. Let me know if you are interested and I'll figure out a price and shipping cost. I will need a zip to calculate cost as I am in Canada. JS

Yeah, I am definitely interested and my shipping zip is 29588 in Myrtle Beach, SC. I would prefer to see some pics just to make sure it would be something within my capabilities to repair and repaint black. Maybe you can just email me at not-a-bullfrog@sc.rr.com and we can work something out. I'll try to post pics and see how this works.
