Welcome to the forum
I understand the engine runs very fast at startup. Is this a 3.1 or 3.8?
THere is no "adjustment" for idle speed: the computer does it by adjusting the "idle air control" valve. If a 3.1, there is a "pintle adjust" procedure , but normally it is not required unless parts have been changed: if all components are OK it adjusts by itself.
A faulty Idle AIr control motor is a possibility, as well as sticky control...but come back with more details first.

ANd about the engine getting "hot", was it getting hot before this fast idle began to occur? By "hot" do you mean it is pouring steam out?

I was told once that is a 3.8, but not completely sure. What I did was to move the accelerator cable from the motor side, acceleratint and back a couple of times, but it didn't change.
