i recently ran out of gas. filled it up, car started, but the next time I tried to start the car, it wouldn't. it turns over and am getting fire at the plugs, took off hose and gas comes out. what could be the problem?

Not sure which hose you refer to, but, you might have burned the fuel pump up to the point it won't work. can you hear a a slight hum when you first turn the key on? If not then either the pump is dead or the relay is toast. Best bet is to take a fuel pressure reading. The fuel pump will kick on for 2 seconds and should put 40 lbs of fuel pressure to the engine. Much less and it won't run. Of course it could be other things such as ignition module, crank sensor, and other things, BUT, the running out of gas will cause this on GM cars a lot of the time.

I was told to keep the tank half full or better at all times to avoid the fuel pump failure. I know this advice is a little late for you but perhaps you could keep this in mind in the future.
