Any Tamiya kit will do, recent re-issues realy give you wide range of choice.

In my opinion, Revell kits are better fo the beginner, they are more simple and smaller size is more forgiving for some mistakes in painting.

I've never built a Revell F1 car so I can't say for sure but I can say the the Tamiya 1/20th scale Ferrari F189 is a fairly simple F1 car to build and they are still pretty easy to find on ebay and some online sites still offer them.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Revell kits have engines?

The tamiya kits are awesome.

For a beginner F1 kit, it would be hard to beat Revell's Ferrari F2003 (http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/rvl/rvl07240.htm).

Decent kit (it's from when Revell's F1 kits improved), simple paint scheme, cool car, and cheap.

Tamiya's F1 kits are great, but beginner kits they're not. They're well made and go together great, but are more complicated and expensive than a beginner may want.

Yeap, that's what i mean, we talk not about how cool the kit is, but how it is suitable for the beginner.

I'm interested in this same question also. I just picked up a Ligier JS11 for cheap and I got the Indycal decals. This will be my first F1 build, but since I usually build two kits at a time, I may pick up the F1 2000 Tamiya also. I have experience with the sports car series and the rally cars also, but I think these builds are going to be a challenge.

My second car im working on is the Revell BMW sauber F1 and it does have a simplified motor.
It is an easy kit compared to the tamiya WRC that I am currently working on also.
