GM techs, HELP!! stubborn crank position sensor.Cobraman1024 05-13-2007, 07:01 PM ok, so i'm a new guy to the GM stuff. this problem is with my daily driver 97 sunfire, 2.2L ohv engine. after exhausting efforts to remove the old crankshaft position sensor, i finally brokedown and removed the oilpan to get better access to it. i was FINALLY able to remove the p.o.s. by forcing it out from inside the engine block (it now sits on the ground in 3 pieces). now how do i get the new one in??? it goes in about 1/3 of the way and then just stops, just like the old one came out about a third of the way and stopped moving. i checked the "canister" housing the magnet of the old one and there aren't any markings to indicate an obstruction to this thing going in. it seems like an interference fit but all the manuals i've read that have a section on the crank position sensor basically say "installation is the reverse of removal"----------i had to use extreme force to remove the old one, do i use extreme force to install the new one?? i've also thought of freezing it to get it to shrink a little bit but i'm not sure if that will damage the magnet inside the canister. has anyone else experienced the same problem with this sensor? thanks in advance for any help....... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
