Stupid question!

I know this is a stupid question. But I'm learning how to work on vehicles through trial and error. (mostly error) This beast I was given has been setting for two years plus. I was wondering which tank should I put the fuel in. I know this may be a stupid question but the haynes book does not mention what is the main tank. This thing will run for few seconds if I spray starter fluid into carb. but once the fluid is gone it dies. So I was wondering if it was the fuel pump. Some have suggested that it could just be bad gas and will need some sort of enhancement. I was also told it could be that I did not put enough new fuel in it. I was told also that the mechanical fuel pumps can simply just go out or never work after setting. what do you think?

IF it has 2 fuel caps just put in $5 worth in each one. I am not sure about the fuel tanks

If the vehicle has been sittin that long I iwould put in a can of stabilizer and a bottle of fuel dryer (alcohol). If its been sitting for quite a while it will take some time before the fuel is sucked up into the engine.

Disconnect the coil wire and loosen the fuel line from the carburator. Turn in over and check to see if fuel is running in to it. Have someone turn it over while someone else is holding the fuel line into bottle.

It's possible the fuel pump has gone bad by sitting for 2 years and not being immersed with petrol. I'd change it.

Hey thanks for the information.I will put fuel in both tanks with stablizer! I've been wrestling with the fuel pump for quite a while. The fuel pump it's self is very easy to take off of the motor but the air condition unit makes it so that you can't reach the fuel lines on the pump and it also makes it difficult to remove the pump all together. I cannot see where it is possible to remove the A/C unit the bolts are in very wierd position. does anyone have experience with this config? any help would be greatly apprecieated
