I need to repalce the serpentine belt tensioner on my 93 Grand Voyager, 3.3L with air. I just replaced the belt as the last one started to shred. The tensioner, I believe, is making a clacking sound that increases with RPM. I believe that it is the tensioner.

Can anyone advise on how to remove and repalce the tensioner. Not sure if the nut on the back of the tensioner can be accessed from underneath, or from the top by removing the alternator.

Any advice appreciated.

Sounds like the tensioner bearings are gone. It's done from underneath. Here's an abbreviated version from Autozone's On-line Repair Guide (scroll down). (http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/10/b6/be/0900823d8010b6be/repairInfoPages.htm)

Thanks Webbee. The site troubleshooting info confirms that it should be the tensioner.

There are no specifics as to how to access the nut to remove the tensioner.

If anyone who has done this can advise, it would be appreciated.

If you buy either the Goodyear or Gates fix kit, you will receive very detailed instructions on how to replace. These fix kits work absolutely amazing for correcting belt juming and shredding issues.
