Hi all My mon's car would die right out after going around 12 to 15 miles
2 times, had it towed first time they fixed a gas line leak,, said ok nice
few weeks later went around 12 miles away died again,, while at a light
and just taking off.. this garage told her the tranny was shot.. I said what tow it home.. I drove it around the block a few times shifted fine
no clunking or nothing so I am thinking something overheats and shuts it down.. she said it made a really load noise like having blown out tires..
the guy said something about converter and solenoid also.. any ideas,
I can unplug the connector to the converter right?
we cannot afford a major fix older car but I still need it to last for her... I told her she would be ok driving to the store and stuff,,
so please let me know what I can try,, the first time she seen something overheat her gage did not go up though,, I did change the thermostat
never heard of this, car seems fine till it gets hot. thank all kappy

not much help but umm ,not likely a gauge in vehicle for tranny temp unless it is an aftermarket gauge . check the tranny fluid colour and smell it to see if is burnt. that`ll tell you whether it overheated.

muff I meant the engine overheat temp gage sorry,, the tranny shifts fine and the fluid is good too, I did unplug the convertor connection abuddy of mine says they do it on these cars alot it overheats not sure exactly
what this convertor is there for it is a blue plug into a white one, I read it somewhere on here too TLL solenoid possibly car runs ok did not go far though I will try it today thanks kappy


update 5/6 unplugged the blue plug drove 18 miles no problems all done for now i hope

You're not done. You killed your final gear. You're gas mileage will suffer heavily and you're putting heavy strain on the motor and transmission because it needs to maintain higher RPMs for the same speed. The fix on that transmission cost me $40 and 30 minutes. Its incredibly easy:
