I have a wierd problem. My 98 altima sometimes, a few times a month will shut off while coming to a stop or in bumper to bumper traffic. It will start right back up always. Spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, fuel pump, charging system are all good. I have heard it could be the distributer, tps, or the ckp sensor. Has anyone experienced this before. Please help

The distributors do have a problem with oil leaking into them, however they rarly ever start right back up. Have you checked your base idle, and the operation of your iac valve?

I had a similar Problem...Turned out to be the "O-Ring" that seals the Distributor shaft....The Fix is: Pull the distributor out of the side of the Head (Overhead camshaft) replace the "O-Ring" on the Distributor shaft (I think it cost me $1.50) then re-install the distributor. TIP: try not to rotate the shaft. This is really much easier than it sounds...just don't turn the engine or the distributor shaft...make a mark with an ice pick or a sharp awl and then just re-align the marks when you go back together with it. The reason that it seems to be an intermittent problem is that it takes the engine oil a while to get hot enough and 'thin' enough to by-pass the "O-Ring" and get into the Distributor Cap...which causes a short inside the cap and makes the engine die.
