Lambo Doors

I have a 1994 Pontiac Firebird. I live in Wisconsin and I want to put Lambo doors on my car, however, I do not know anything about doing this myself, so I would probably need it professionally done. Does anyone know of places in Wisconsin that installs the door kit? I would like a couple places so I could compare prices. Also, does anyone have suggestions on what kit to get? My car has T-tops and I don't want the doors to open out at all, just up. I would also prefer to have it automatically open instead of by hand. What would you suggest me doing? Is it that hard to install the lambo kit or not? Please help. Thx!

I don't think there will be a lot of us on here who have experience with 'lambo doors'. From a performance standpoint, they serve no purpose except for show cars.

F-body doors are heavier than a dead priest in a buffet line, good luck.

  LMAO!  Good one! :cwm27:

Ditto on Poor, I'd like to help, but if it ain't making anything faster, run better, or restoring it to original... I keep my mouth shut.

You might wanna try asking one of the import guys... they would be much more familiar (I would think) or do a giigle search on camaro / lambo doors and see what comes up. I'll bet that someone near you is competent enough to do it for you, although I wouldn't really see what is that hard about it. Just changing some hinges and a little wiring, right?

Like Dylan said, maro doors are heavy sumiches. Might have to get them lightened up somehow, otherwise I'm not too sure I'd trust the hinge to work if there's only one. I've seen pictures of maros with the lambo doors (and am personally not a fan of it) but can't remember where I've seen it.

Now-now, to each their own. I'm just saying even with everything stripped out of them, these doors are turds.

Have you tried looking in the yellow pages for custom body shops in your area. That's probably your best bet in finding places that will install them for you. Most lambo kits are designed so that the door opens out a little bit, and then lifts up. There's no way it can just directly lift up because the fender is in the way.

Gullwings are the dumbest idea ever when it comes down to being in a praking lot with cars on both side. :shakehead:

Really? I never really saw own in action, but thought that they opened straight up, kind of like on a dual hinge so that they never went out past the body of the car. Guess not, huh?

wrightz28
04-26-2007, 08:53 AM
Yeah I never gave it much thought either until I saw a TV special on the Delorean and that was one of the biggest crakups of the design. When the doors lift up, you're lifting up a big ol "L" so the bottom ends petrudes out further than the fender line.

Earlsfat
04-26-2007, 12:29 PM
Hmmm, no second hinge in the bend of the "L" huh. I guess maybe that and the fact that the owner got busted selling crack or coke or whatever it was out of his dealerships kinda made the whole selling cars thing not work, huh?

Saw one yesterday... now they look kinda goofy. I think the only thing they reaaly had going for them was the gullwings, and it turned out that they were of poor design. Man, he was finished before he ever started.

Yeah and what about a nice night out for a wedding, bam snow storm hits, roads are all slushy and nasty and you somehow, smoeway have to get that door open with a single drop of road gunk getting on the misses :yikes:

I've yet to see an f-body with lambo doors that look good. The main problem is the fender that protrudes to the mirrors get in the way. I have seen maybe 4 cars that actually looked good with lambo doors. A vette, a viper, a Mazda rx-7 (powered by the LS1) , and an old school ford pickup. Not very many people can pull off the lambo doors without looking like pure ass.

what about delorian(the amc back to the future car) doors where they hinge at the roof

Firebirdlad03
06-30-2007, 10:54 AM
They were talking about that before on the first page, they are called gullwing doors...yea what about them?

stepho

The door doesn't have any metal above the windows. You would have to get custom build new doors, and cut away part of the roof. Even if you could do it it would look rediculous. Our doors are just shy of 5 feet long...

ZL1power69
06-30-2007, 05:48 PM
i wouldn't think the roof structure would be strong enough to support the doors if it was even possible to make them into the gullwing style. plus i don't think you could make it so that the door didn't swing out a rediculous distance. the delorean (made by the delorean motor company, not amc) requires less than 12in for the doors to swing up. a friend of mine owns one.

ok i was proven wrong
just to throw another idea out how about suicides

blindeyed
06-30-2007, 06:35 PM
Suicides are a big no no.. These cars can already be somewhat of a squeeze to get into, can you imagine how much more difficult it would be if the door opened up backwards?

Plus.. it just looks stupid

Because the car was designed to appeal to the smuggler/drug runner market. Imagine how much diamonds/crack/whatever you could hide in the doors!!!

Chevy7x
07-02-2007, 11:12 PM
theres more places than doors to hide drugs in

not that ive ever ran drugs before:iceslolan i just find them when im striping them out

"Why not just take off the doors and climb into it like a jeep"? Jesus Christ...

This thread really has brought out some awful looking pics. The only thing in any of those that make and real sense AT ALL is lowering the car. And the only reason i say that is the proven lower Cd in wind tunnel tests.

Firebirdlad03
07-04-2007, 01:40 AM
well yea but that lowered car still looks nasty..It would be fine if it didnt have the nasty lambo doors..and mabey the purple and silver paint

hotrod_chevyz
07-04-2007, 08:59 AM
Stuff like that adds weight and later, problems. Both things i can live without.

Those suicide doors make me mad. I just want to kick them off, plain and simple. If i saw "van doors" on a f-body i would have to laugh my ass off. Could you imagine, a 4th gen camaro pulling up to 7-11, and suddenly the door clicks and slides back. Now thats some funny shit...

Chevy7x
07-04-2007, 12:18 PM
it would be funny but you never know how it would look

Firebirdlad03
07-05-2007, 03:21 PM
would you seriously want van doors on your firebird?

stepho
07-05-2007, 06:52 PM
I'm going out on a limb here and without ever seeing a firebird/camaro with van doors... i'm going to say they would be hideous.

and I don't really see them being feasible either. The only way they could be done would be to hold the entire door by the bottom. The only other way would be to make a track down the side of your car, like the Chevy Lumina APV vans had. Both methods have their draw backs. Having the door only supported by the bottom would have a tendancy to not shut right or not shut securely also it could be a lot of torque on the supports if someone leaned against the door when it was open. The other way being to make a track down the side of the car would just look hideous.
