Hey Guys,

Well I did it. This weekend I finally got time to put my Magnaflow 15754 Exhaust kit in. It's a complete Cat back Single in dual out replacement. It was a bit tricky to install but with some time and patience I got it all installed.

One complaint I have at this point is the resonance in the cab from about 1500-2000 RPM. Anything outside of those specs is fine low and high.

It sounds awesome and the throttle response is awesome. I knew it was going to be louder by comparing the stock exhaust to the Magnaflow but, I didn't plan on having the resonance in the cab. I was wondering if it had anything to do with my Canopy... I haven't taken the Canopy off yet to see if that makes it better or worse but, I would hate to have spent $450 CAN on this great system only to be stuck with a kind of bothersome tone...

This is the kit I picked up: Magnaflow 15754 (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=Trucks&id=138)

Any ideas on how to help the tone would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking maybe there is something I could put between the Cat's and the muffler to help it...

Thanks guys
Evan

holy crap whered you get it for such a low price? i had my exhaust redone with a single in dual out muffler and the shop bent the pipes and it cost me 780$ CAN. They told me a magnaflow cat back system was 1300$ CAN

I know what you mean. I went to a local Muffler shop that I know and trust and they said it was going to cost me $1000 for a complete cat back system. After I came to I started shopping around. Turns out, the combination of Lordco having a promo sale on, our Staff Discount, and the right timing gave me a price of $431 for the cat back system. I laughed all the way home because the regular price was $998 for this system. It was really easy to put together, this being my first exhaust kit I was fairly nervous but, about 4 hours and lots of tinkering and it went in pretty smooth. Now, I just have to figure out a way around this drone.

However, if I light foot it and keep it below 90 KM/hr it's acceptable.

I had my custom true dual done at a local shop where they cut off the factory exhaust right at the Y where it is still 2 seperate and continued on from there with twin pipes and 2 flo master mufflers and it cost me about 630 Canadian, and that is including the 2 4" magnaflow stainless tips.

Chuck nice kit you got there. I just took a look to see what they had fo rmine but it looks like I am out of luck. Nothing listed for an 02 2500 HD 6.0L ext cab. :frown:

I had to add a $75 Flowmaster resonator to get rid of the drone. It's much better now. Interesting that the Flowmaster single in dual out kit comes with a resonator unlike the magnaflow. I guess the Magnaflow boys are going strictly for performance.

It's much more practical now with the Resonator.... I still can't believe by the time I was done I dropped $700 Can on my Exhaust system...

Take it easy boys

flowmasters have more "resonance" that magnaflow by far. I had a flowmaster on my 92K1500, and even though I liked the sound the "noise" in the cab from 55mph to about 65mph drove me crazy. Installed a magnaflow and have never turned back. I have the dual inlet and dual outlet muffler, no cat.

So I wonder why my Kit from Magnaflow that Claimed not too much Resonance resonated so bad without a resonator?

I agree that Flow'eez suck as a rule. I had one with my 90 Blazer and it sucked. I went with a Turbo muffler after that and it was way better. I'm really happy with the setup I have now; I just didn't think that a Boxed kit would resonate so bad and that the company wouldn't do anything about it

Thanks.

I think once you buy most any brand muffler its yours..... that bad part is that some of these mufflers are about $100 US.

I like the flowmasters for hot rod type stuff. Magnaflow is my choice for any every day driver.

Evan:

Did the performance and/or sound change at all outside of the 1500-2000rpm range with the resonator on?

Sincerely,
Matt

Hey Matt,

Resonator made a HUGE difference. No real noticeable difference in performance which was nice. However, it did tone the exhaust noise down. Under normal driving it's a nice low rumble but, get on it and you can hear it coming. No more sounding like an Airplane inside. WOO HOO!!!

Evan,

I know that droning can get you right in the center of the brain!!! :grinyes: Fortunately for me, the Flo-Pro that I had installed has enough case volume to contain the droning at highway speeds, but if you get on it, you know it's there. I also like the low exhuast note that it emits at idle, not loud, but performance sounding. If I remember correctly, Flo-Pro's are made in Canada. As an aside, I live in Texas, but I took my truck up there a couple of years ago and drove around Sault Ste.Marie. What a beautiful area, at least it was in the summer!! Sure beat the 105 degree weather we were having.

Sincerely,

Matt

Hey Matt,

Take it easy gents.

I have the Magnaflow on '05 Ext Cab Z-85 and the drone (resonance) was getting to me too. QUite by accident, I decided to shorten the tips a bit, so they ended right at the lip of the rear bumper - marked change in the resonance that I was getting.

Resonance (standing air pressure waves) is susceptible to the length of the tube, so that must be what helped my system. You might want to try and loosen the tips, then shorten or lengthen them to see if it helps ... of course, they have to look good too...

Good Luck
