What is the best tire's make ?Stefanel1 10-15-2002, 06:33 PM To you, what is the best make ? Why ? In which circonstances ? Luke@tirerack 10-16-2002, 03:36 PM Bridgestone tires are technologically superior in the design and tread compound Spec2 Girl 10-16-2002, 05:27 PM I've had Toyo tyres on both my FTO and now the Skyline and I love them. They grip really well and aren't noisy. Some people don't seem to like Toyos, but I've never had any problems and thing they're fantastic. :) schwinnxsx 11-04-2002, 02:17 PM BF goodrich tires are the best on the market. best dry traction u can get on a tire and dont tell me no cuz no other tire on the market can achieve 1.0g on a 300 ft skippad.:D :flipa: :finger: sshasan 11-26-2002, 01:07 AM Dunlop, Hands Down Jimster 11-26-2002, 02:59 AM Pirelli, hands down, contest over :) Stefanel1 11-26-2002, 11:36 AM The Pirelli are really good, but they wear out quickly. The Michelin are expensive but have good handling and good resistance. For instance the Bridgestone RE92 is not so good, while the S-03 is the best tire I've ever had. All in all though I give the nod to Bridgestone. Takeshi_Nakazato 03-04-2003, 04:42 PM They are only available in Japan, but they are awesome racing and drift tires. Yes, fresh tires do play a big role in racing, when you have new tires, they grip the track better than old tires which have less tread and therefore less traction. They don't really slow you down, they just reduce handling which is bad for racing in most sports Hope that helps. Tires are the most important part of any car, no matter what type of racing it's gonna be doing. They dictate how well the car handles, how fast it can accelerate and how quickly it can stop. The tires do everything , the make the car turn, they make the car accelerate and the make the car stop. Roby Sulaco505 03-27-2003, 09:21 PM I have Bridgestone Potenza RE950 on my car, but I'm not an expert on high performance tires. All I can say is that I was really happy last Saturday, watching the Malaysian Grand Prix, when they announced that one of the teams was running on Bridgestone Potenza. :hehehe: Other than that, they seem to handle really well on curves. I managed to cook BFG 275/40-17 G-Force KD's in little over 2 summers, and have very recently replaced them with FIREHAWK 275/40-17 SZ50EP's in the front and 285/40-17's in the rear. My previous G-Force KD drag radials were simply awesome on the dragstrip, but a hazard in the rain. Because of the soft compound design the G-Force burned away VERY rapidly (quite rediculous actually). I did a lot of research before I bought my new SZ50EP's. Besides being near equal and in some cases superior to the G-Force in traction, the amazing 340 treadware rating is what sold me on the Firehawk (v.s the 200 tread wear rating of the G-Force). Opinion, Brand loyalty, driving habbits and personal preference obviously factor into everyone's opinion, but dare to compare YOUR tire to all the rest on www.tirerack.com and see how it scores. These are the results I found comparing my old and new tires: G-Force KD/ SZ50EP Dry Handling: 9.4/ 9.0 Dry Traction: 9.6/ 9.3 Wet Traction: 6.7/ 9.1 Ride Comfort: 6.9/ 8.5 Noise Comfort: 6.1/ 8.6 Wear: 5.9/ 8.2 The G-Force and SZ50EP were the ONLY tires I found that scored a 9 or better for dry traction (there may be others out there but my search was limited to 275/40-17 tire sizes and the Max or Ultra High Performance Category). This Sunday will be the REAL test for my new SZ50EP's, as I will be heading to Cayuga drapstrip Sunday morning(weather permitting). Will post my ET's and pics of the tires next week. And by the way, I'm sure the 50% manufacter discount coupon my friend hooked up for the tires has made me just a bit biased (Cause there's no way I was going to pay the $540 CAD retail (per tire!) for the 285's). 1BAD305 05-31-2003, 02:30 AM i hate toyo fz4s on my car, they are decent street tires, suck at the track tho (1/4m) they are 245 50 16s DVS LT1 06-03-2003, 10:45 PM Here's a pic of me and my new Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP tires. My trip to the dragstrip was hindered by my posi clutch slipping like crazy, so I couldn't heat both rear tires up evenly or launch properly. Nevertheless, I managed to pretty much equal last summers best ET with a 13.8 @ 101 Mph - I accomlished this by simply flooring it off the line. Compared to my old 275 G-Force KD's, the 285 rear Firehawks actually look smaller. THis is due to the unique design, where instead of going right into the tread from the sidewall, the rubber kind of cuts in at an angle then goes into the tread. As a result, these tires take corners like no others. THey are absolutely awesome in the rain, and I'm quite surprised at how much rubber(literally) they lay down on the pavement - even at slow speeds. DVS LT1 06-03-2003, 10:46 PM See what I mean about that unique angled cut from the sidewalls? Great all-around performer, and I've never hydroplaned, even through puddles and standing water. Anyone driving on these. fordjay16 07-15-2003, 11:12 PM Yokohama AVS dB S2......great dry and wet grip...........good hydro resistance...........very quiet and ride nice........not sure on tread wear............they are pretty good in winter too. accent gsi 07-24-2003, 07:47 PM I have a set of the Dunlop SP Sport tires and they are some really nice tires. I don't like the Yoko's, Kumhos (Korean) or Sumitomo's. I have used Kumho before (stock tire for the Accent) until one time my left rear tire blowed up while i was driving. Thanks i was at 40 km/h so I controlled the car. The problem, the steel inside the tire lost its consistence and drop out of it. That's why i prefer the Potenza or the Dunlop. Great grip and design. ducatisti_748r 07-28-2003, 03:08 AM my friends kumhos also blew. i think they're not too durable when it comes to bumpy roads. ive tried quite a number of brands and for street i think outright performance is hard to compare so my two cents here is voting for wear, durabilty, everyday/daily driving and handling requirements, price - IMHO i like dunlops..... for bikes its pirelli and metzelers! :bigthumb: myellowslk 08-06-2003, 03:21 AM its all about the potenza pole positions by bridgestone yeah!!! but yokohama AVS is pretty good too. boosted331 08-06-2003, 02:30 PM I run 275/40/17 nitto 555r's on the back of my mustang and 245/45/17 BFG g-force KDW's on front, it grips nicely. 205/45/16 yoko parada spec 2's on my civic and they grip awesome, especially for how much power I make. airforceone 08-11-2003, 12:29 PM I love the Yokohama Geolander A/T IIs on my Blazer. They're quiet, have deep treads (I've put about 10K on them and they still look new, even the red and blue stripes are still visible) and they will chew through anything you touch to them. But that's just me... mblychak 08-13-2003, 06:37 PM My knowledge of the English language has me confused as to exactly what the question is. I've had them for 15k miles with only about25-30% wear. so the should last for 40-50k miles. Jedi276 02-13-2004, 12:39 AM Eagle F1 GSD3s are the best tire I have ever experienced. Before I was using some nice Yokohama's, but those pale in comparison to these Eagles. I take corners harder than ever in these tires and have yet to slide at all. Not to mention, one of the best tred patterns I have ever seen. More people comment on my tires than on the rest of my car! Mine also cost me $180+tax per tire (with installation). licensed 02-13-2004, 06:12 PM Nitto Neogen. best all around tire. good for anything and has good grip. Dsilver 04-22-2004, 12:49 AM My vote is for Pirelli, P Zero Assimetrico, and P Zero Rosso are like the best tires you can get, they put those on Ferrari's and Lambo's, so I vote Pirelli, plus if you go to Europe you can get the yearly Pirelli calender, which has lots of beautiful girls in it. Dsilver 04-26-2004, 09:21 PM Im sticking with Pirelli, they have awesome tires. AZFlyingDiver 05-06-2004, 01:20 PM Michelin LTX M/S (2nd set now) on my Jeep Grand Cherokee are awesome - great combo of ride, wear (90,000 miles!) and handling. LOWMONTE817 07-05-2004, 10:46 AM Don't get Kumho's, they suck. Thay get good traction, but their sidewalls are horrible. I've replaced 2 in the last month due to the sidewall bubbling out. I found out the sidewalls are only 1 Ply construction. LOWMONTE817 07-05-2004, 10:49 AM Yokohama Geolander AT/2's are great tires for trucks. I'e got them on my S-10 Blazer 4x4. They get awesome traction on and off road. Theyre good in wet weather and the snow. Also they dont have very much road noise. szczecinek 07-05-2004, 09:33 PM if u r fully serious about performance you cant go past a good pair of street legal semi slicks (very $$$$$ though). Roadandguitarman 06-10-2006, 10:26 PM Why was Firestone left off the ballot? They're probably one of the largest and oldest of the more well-known brands. I've almost always used Firestone. Roadandguitarman 06-25-2006, 07:05 PM bridgestone owns firestone. Ok, thanks, that makes sense. However, since Firestone is still a seperate leading brand, then I would have added it to the ballot. Bridgestone is a seperate brand of tire, even if that company owns the Firestone company. Therefore, two seperate well-known brands, still. slideways... 06-28-2006, 05:28 PM firestone is garbage. nitto is garbage. nokians are best in winter. BFGoodrich and yokohama are the two overall best, i dont think one is better than the other. but either is better than all the rest. for straight dry grip, ill take hoosiers over all. Roadandguitarman 06-28-2006, 08:11 PM Firestone tires are definitely not garbage. Their tires are very good. I've always liked them for many years and still do. I rate them very high and are my favorite. Actually, there's not any real bad tire. In general, tire design and quality have improved so much over the years. However, I usually stay away from the cheaper off-brands. So far as the best, I think the Michelins that were on the first car I bought, in 1970, were top of the line. Michelin was also the only radial tire out at that time, since they were the first makers of radials. I would rate them as the best, but I think they still cost more. Tater049 03-04-2007, 12:23 AM nitto by far. I ran kumho's on my old svt cobra, and they werent as good as the nittos. I have nittos on a couple of my rides. hondahappy86 03-10-2007, 12:42 AM B.F.goodrich by far....perellis are overpriced for what you get....just like continentals ....michelins are too flimsy in the sidewall and the jap made tires yokahamas are the best...by far for the quality....and dunlop and kelly are good as just a everyday tire...not for track day ....well thats my 2 cents....i work for a tire store so i do have a good idea about all of them.....and firestones and brigestones and daytons.....never had good luck with them.....and generic brands are you get what you pay for:2cents: cooldudeny 07-02-2007, 07:39 PM just wondering why no one is talkin about the falken brand ?
