Volkswagen Touareg SUVcrayzayjay 10-15-2002, 03:45 PM The Touareg is VW's new SUV. VW have ambitiously touted it as the best all-round SUV on sale today, claiming it is a full-on off-roader at the same time beating the BMW X5 on-road. To top it off, luxury levels approach those of a Range Rover or X5. Developed in conjunction with Porsche's development of the Cayenne SUV, the Touareg will be fighting with the X5, Range Rover and Merc-ML for market sales. The car is found to be very capable off-road but no match for an X5 on the black stuff. It comes close, mind. Which leaves the question, will this car be a success for VW? I thought it would be until i checked out the prices, which show that the Touareg doesnt undercut its rivals by much. Who'd drive a VW SUV when a BMW or Merc is only slightly dearer? I wouldnt, would you? ---------- Engines available: 3.2 petrol V6 220bhp 221lbft 4.2 petrol V8 310bhp 297lbft 2.5 5-pot Tdi 164bhp 289lbft 5.0 V10 Tdi 313bhp 542lbft 6-speed manual and autos available Pics: http://www.vwvortex.com/features/07_02/07_08/01.jpg http://www.vwvortex.com/features/07_02/07_08/04.jpg http://www.vwvortex.com/features/07_02/07_08/03.jpg Velfarreclubber 03-19-2003, 05:26 PM im very intrested w/ the touareg, looks cool but the back reminds me of a raised up mini van. the price range is good for me for around 35k and w/ the x5 3.0i w/ all the options i like just goes far out of my budget. this car looks like a blend of the new porshe caynne, audi a4, and a passat. i like it how you can raise the car up/down and the interior looks luxurious and cool GTi-VR6_A3 03-21-2003, 10:39 PM i would take the loaded toureg. but i may be biased... -GTi-VR6_A3 crayzayjay 03-22-2003, 05:59 AM The interior does look good. though if youre gonna have wood dont stop at a few splashes here and there, do it properly GTi-VR6_A3 03-22-2003, 01:18 PM Originally posted by crayzayjay The interior does look good. though if youre gonna have wood dont stop at a few splashes here and there, do it properly maybe a few more splashes wopuld be nice but lets be tasteful with it now. -GTi-VR6_A3 Deakins 03-22-2003, 01:49 PM Or it'll end up like the Phaeton :D crayzayjay 03-23-2003, 12:00 PM Originally posted by GTi-VR6_A3 maybe a few more splashes wopuld be nice but lets be tasteful with it now. -GTi-VR6_A3 Of course, taste is of the utmost importance. But look at the bit of wood above the glovebox, i mean, come on, that has to extend all the way to the end. It looks like the guy picked it up at Halfords and applied it onto the dashboard with a little superglue GTi-VR6_A3 03-23-2003, 02:25 PM yeah extend it and myabe a bit near the window/lock switcches -GTi-VR6_A3 Velfarreclubber 03-24-2003, 03:39 PM yeah, more wood on the dash and on the window switches/locks would certaintly would be a better improvement. also they NEED to change the tail lights, it looks just like the toyota sienna minivan GTi-VR6_A3 03-24-2003, 10:45 PM welcome to af enjoy your stay. :D -GTi-VR6_A3 Velfarreclubber 03-29-2003, 11:18 AM thanks Menu dei Motori 03-30-2003, 05:44 AM well i took the x5 but our neighbour has a touareg v10 diesel... well good acceleration and good comfort but i don´t like the interior. Deakins 04-05-2003, 09:01 AM But we both know the Touareg would run circles around the X5 on 90% of all real world road conditions. :D Zippy 04-05-2003, 09:03 AM I like that and the new Lincoln Navigator... forget build quality :( , something the VW actually has. Menu dei Motori 04-05-2003, 09:52 AM Originally posted by Deakins But we both know the Touareg would run circles around the X5 on 90% of all real world road conditions. :D yea because the turning circle is bigger :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D joking :D well i´m not sure if the touareg v10 diesel has a chance against the x5 4.6iS... Deakins 04-05-2003, 10:44 AM On dry roads, probably not. But that's where the W12 comes to play :) GTi-VR6_A3 04-05-2003, 02:37 PM Originally posted by Deakins On dry roads, probably not. But that's where the W12 comes to play :) mmmm w12 thats a cool engine -GTi-VR6_A3 Deakins 04-05-2003, 02:41 PM Indeed, especially the 600hp Nardo engine :D Let's just hope they don't wait too long before they put the Touareg W12 on sale. Menu dei Motori 04-06-2003, 05:22 AM Originally posted by Deakins On dry roads, probably not. Menu dei Motori 04-06-2003, 06:14 AM Originally posted by Deakins R5, VR6, V8 and V10, but Bernd Pischetsrieder mentiond the W12 will eventually be offered in the Touareg. cool ... would be good choice then. i still miss a big diesel engine in the x5 like the x5 4,0d ... the engine from the 740d or the future 540d Stefanel1 06-19-2003, 07:57 PM Very nice car, becoming quite popular over here. Stefanel1 06-19-2003, 07:58 PM and this is the V10 TDi 313hp ! ;) Euro19 06-20-2003, 12:04 AM I think the Touareg is agreat SUV, but the Volvo XC70 is better IMO. Well, the back of the Touareg would look better like this IMO of course , because dont like the current tail- crayzayjay 06-20-2003, 05:08 AM Nah id much rather have a Touareg over the Volvo… just to say I don’t drive a Volvo SUV… doesn’t get much girlier than that! Menu dei Motori 06-20-2003, 05:23 AM i love that car... our neighbour has a v10 tdi :bigthumb: ex42_25 07-12-2003, 03:05 AM My mom has the Tourag v8 and holy crap its a good car I allmost like it more than my 690 hp Bora vw will allways beat any other car even bmw or benz Stefanel1 07-12-2003, 09:09 AM 690 hp Bora.... :D 204hp maybe ? :D ;) ...what does mean IMO ?!!! Menu dei Motori 07-12-2003, 02:39 PM Originally posted by Stefanel1 ...what does mean IMO ?!!! imo= in my opinion you also often hear imho in my humble opinion Stefanel1 07-13-2003, 09:23 AM Danke schön ! :D ;) mauleskyrocket 12-30-2003, 07:35 PM The Toareg is the worst VW I have ever owned. It lives in the shop. Vw cannot make high end cars and their dealers can't service them. crayzayjay 01-02-2004, 04:57 AM what sort of problems have you had? FortechMini11 02-22-2004, 02:34 AM i work at a vw dealer and the most expensive one we've sold was 59,300, fully loaded of course, everything except for the electronically adjustable steering wheel vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
