With my cars I always install the prestone backflush kit and use a garden hose. Also, instead of unscrewing the radiator drain plug, I just pull off the bottom radiator hose to drain it.

Stan

Thanks. I will look into that. Do you know if the kit flushes out the block as well as the radiator? Also, do you need to drain the water out of the block after flushing it?

Yes it flushes out the block. Also, I drain the block/radiator again as you need to space to put in the coolant.

If you have about 4 hours to wait, use the drain plug. Otherwise, ditto on the lower rad hose. Just did mine today (to replace the water pump).

How do you drain the block? Does removing the lower radiator hose drain it, or do you have to remove the drain plugs in the block?
