Brake diagnostic light flashes after installing electric brake controller

I just got done installing an electric brake controller on my 2002 Durango and now the brake diagnostic light flashes when I start the vehicle.

I don't have the towing package so I ran the wiring myself. I used the white/tan wire coming off of the brake pedal switch as the 'trigger' (red wire) for the controller. I have the hot wire (black) running directly to the battery and the ground (white) running to a bolt on the firewall that is already used for a factory ground.

I took the brake controller out of my 95 Cherokee before I traded it in and it was working just fine!

Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? Thank you!
