Heres the newest old problem....

My Friggin truck does not want to start after it rains a lot.

What do you guys think? New coil packs right?

Anyone know what the average price is for that part and about how many hours on the install?

Thanks,

your pal,

Scott :banghead:

Had issues with the coil wire on that truck, is it COP or does it have one coil, if so replace all the wires.

to be honest, I am very unfamiliar with this part of the motor.
I always thought the coils were just what my truck had insted of a regular distributor.

are you taliking about the plug wires?

Do you see a distrubutor and plug wires from it?

yes.

the coils are inside right?

I heard they can get corroded and if you clean them with a wire brush it helps.

Which motor - if a 4.3 it has 1 coil on pass side with the Ign mod and heat sink attached. Classic no wet start is dirty cap/rotor.

Yeah. It's a 4.3. (good motor)

Is that all I need to replace. U think the coil isnt the problem. That sounds a lot easier than I previously assumed.

So, you are saying try replacing the cap/ rotor first and see how it goes.

I would say it needs a tune -up which includes the cap/.rotor plugs/wires, depending of course when atune up was done on it.

A can of WD-40 or any other moisture displacement spray can help you track down the problem. Just spray electrical parts one at a time until the problem goes away after a heavy rain. You also may be able to pop the hood at night or in a dim/dark area and see spark jumping. This will especially help if a full tune up doesn't fix the problem.
