All related to front impact sesor.

So it is just fo rthe front sensors, not side specific?? Could it be a bad ground, bad sensor, a short?? Or all the above??

Airbag Lamp Fault Code (LFC) of 14 means Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Ground Circuit Open according to the service manual. The service manual suggests starting by making sure the Restraints Control Module is securely mounted with clean grounds. To perform any service on this system requires deactivating the airbag system and gets into high liability areas that I'm not comfortable providing guidance for.

UPDATE: The above information was from the 2002 model year service manual. I later remembered that I've seen before where the 2002 manual had some goofy information, so I pulled up an LFC for the 2000 model year in the service manual. For 2000, an LFC of 14 does mean Front External Crash Sensor Shorted To Ground, so Johnny Mullet is probably correct. According to the service manual:

A front external crash sensor shorted to ground fault can be caused by:

- a short to ground on circuit 619 (PK/WH).

- a damaged or inoperative front external crash sensor.

- an RCM internal concern.

Thanks for the info. I plan on taking to the local Ford stealer for the airbag service. Its nice to have idea what is going on with it before taking it there though. Not many "friendly dealers" in this area.
Thanks guys.

I bet the connector is corroded.

Well Johnny Mullett was right. I checked the connector and sure enough there was corrosion there. I cleaned it up and it looks good now. Will the airbag light go out on its own after a while when the problem is corrected or does it have to be cleared by the dealer??

After a certain amount of drive cycles, the light may go out if it was fixed correctly.

Hello:
The code refers to the fornt sensor(s). Usually it is a corroded ground connection where the sensor mounts to the body panels or core support. Once the problem is corrected, the light will go off by itself. Unlike a 'check engine' light, this system will reset itself immediately and not after a quantity of ignition cycles. The airbag system continuoously monitors itself for faults and on Fords, will reset automatically once a fault is corrected (unless it is after a deployment).

Thanks Johnny Mullett, I called a Ford dealer that was willing to answer a question and they did say that after a certain number of drive cycles the code will be erased and the light will go out. It does not go out right away after the problem is corrected (like dugan50) suggested (unless it is reset by the Ford stealer). They said it works just like the check engine light. It will go out after a certain number of cycles that do not detect the problem. Thanks for the help. Hopefully it will go out soon.
