Anywho, I like how your car sounds in it, I guess I'm used to the farty sound the N1 has on D16 motors, but on your Si it sounds really nice. That last curve you did, seemed like you really gunned it around it, when I did that around this one big curve when I auto-x'ed a few weeks ago, I almost got myself in trouble because of breaking loose, but I was able to recover it without knocking a single cone. :) Also, when you run, do you just leave it in 2nd, or do you move it around between 1st and 2nd? Cool vid though, I hope to be able get a digital copy of me running sometime.

I went from a high 39 to a 38.1. In the moring I went from 1st to 2nd (like i the video) after the first turn and stayed in 2nd until the final curve for the finish line where I shifted back to 1st. I'm starting to get better at clutch in, heel-toe and braking, shifting and gunning it to the finish line.

In the afternoon I left it in 1st the whole course - hit redline about 2 times which isn't much on the back straight going into the downhill section coming at the camera.

That's cool then. With having mine being an auto, I can't play around with it as much as you can with 5-speed. Before I did my first race, people told me to just leave it in "2" for the entire run, in 6th gen auto Civics, that locks it into 2nd gear, without ever dropping back down to 1st when you stop. Then someone that has been auto crossing for a little while told me just to leave it in D4 when I run, as 2 might not be as ideal. I left it in D4 (can't get a good launch leaving the line in 2 anyways) and I think it stayed in 2nd most of the time by itself, possibly going into 3rd on some of the straights, but I can't recall it happening... When I got to the final straight where they say to gun it before you turn in off the track, I remember it would always downshift (into 1st I'm assuming) as I'd floor the gas, and the RPMs would shoot to readline. :) If I couldn't make up the time on the track, at least I could on the final straight ;) I'll have to post links to the pics I got of when I raced, pics was all I got, no vids. :(

but you can actually drive a car like that...you know i'd have cones sittin on top of the roof if i tried doing that

It's not actually as hard as it looks, it's just about car control, and steering control, and not taking the turns too fast. It's really lots of fun! :cool: My forst time I ever did it a few weeks ago, between 3 runs I did, I only knocked down ONE cone the entire day.

i'll go try autocross when i got a decent car and suspension setup it looks like mad fun, more than just going straight.

Actually most people think you have to have this awesome car with $20K invested in the suspension. I know guys who autocross there Fiat (80hp) or Lincoln Town Car and kicks Mustang and Firebird butts with it :)

The best mod for any car is to fix the driver. Spend $1000 on a coilover kit and maybe gain .5-1 second on a 60 second course. Spend $50 on a novice school or $225 on an Evolution School and gain about 4-8 seconds on the same course.

Plus some mods will bump you into harder and more difficult classes sometimes against cars that have tube frames, sequential shifters, 13x10" wheels ($1000 each) and super sticky tires.

That is SO true what CivSiRacer said above. The auto cross I participated in, I saw some crazy stuff there! For one some guy brought his '62 Cadillac (completely stock, looked like it had come off a junkyard lot, talk about LOTS of body roll and tire howling), another guy brought along his Izusu Rodeo, with some intake and I think exhaust mods to it, and almost ended up rolling it actually when he spun out around one curve (excatly why you DON'T auto-cross a stock height SUV), then there were various Civics, I saw a stock '02 Si hatch run, and a couple stock 7th gen Civic EX coupes run (my car is pretty midified, and one of the stock 7th gen Civics had about 6 seconds better than me times). So as you can tell, it's a sport for any driver, and any car (except a top heavy SUV), and even if you have the worst times, you stull have a really fun experience! :D

What tires are you running on your K-1 rims.....Or are those slicks?...I'm going for the same thing but in my 94 sedan....

What suspension set up are your running...

I built up:
Front upper + lower Strut bar and front eibach sway bar
Rear upper + lower strut ba and rear eibach sway bar
Tokico Adjustible's with Ground Control coilovers
15x6.5 tenzo rims but have yokohama 195/45/15's (heard that tire size bad)


This set up has my car glued to the gound and handles nicely..

Anywho that PT Cruiser auto-x'ing I just can imagine, then again I couldn't imagine the '62 Caddy I posted a pic of either. ;) Between that guy's 1st and 3rd run, he shaved 20 whole seconds off his time! He had a 104 second run initially, and he got it down to 84 seconds. :) Damn, his best run was only 3 seconds lower than my best tun! :eek: Anywho, I'm looking to go run again as soon as another one comes up here. :) Oh, you can't see it that well (ex g/f didn't think shooting INTO the sunlight would matter), but here's a pic below of my last run the day I went, it's right when I was spinning my tires off the starting line. :cool:

STS=Street Touring Street tires. Basically there are classes for any cars, and any number of mods. See them here: http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/index.shtml

PAX - forget what it actually means but PAX is number you multiply your times by to get an overall time so you can compare to the rest of the field. So you can compare a Geo Metro vs. a Dodge Viper. The faster the class the higher the number multiplier, the slower the car the lower the number.

So a Geo Metro which is in H Stock (HS) has a number of 0.779 and a twin turbo RX7 is in Super Stock (SS) which has a PAX of 0.836. If both cars ran a 30 second time: 30*0.779=23.37 and 30*0.836=25.08. Which means overall the HS car was faster than the SS car.

awesome video! i have a friend who's been trying to convince me to go out for like over a year now....when i get my new hatch (getting a 90 hatch, w/ suspension mods, and wheels, some other "mods" as well, in about a month) i think i shall prep for next year.
im glad im getting a car again, ive been goin crazy w/o my hatch :(

Actually there are cool/hot chicks at autocrosses already :) But if she goes I can tell you one thing. If a guy and a girl start at the same time most of the time it's the girl who is faster cause she is smoother. Guys are like kamakazi :)

Actually you do not need to do any mods. Mods will bump you into harder classes against people who have spent $200 on one tire (Hoosier), $1200 on one shock (Moton) and $400 on one wheel.

When I instruct novices always ask what mods are best. I say fix the driver first then worry about mods later.
