How much can 4.0L 4*4, Man tr. Cherokee tow?car5car 04-11-2007, 01:50 AM Look please if you have Owners manual. Mine is 97. Thanks. fredjacksonsan 04-11-2007, 08:45 AM I believe that it's 2000 pounds. Although I've read somewhere that a guy towing that much with the Cherokee had stability problems, and suggested that you stay at 1000 pounds or below. car5car 04-11-2007, 11:05 AM I believe that it's 2000 pounds. Thanks, is it from manual? fredjacksonsan 04-11-2007, 11:39 AM Nope sorry, not from the manual; but I had looked at that year with an eye to buy and recall the brochure for those years. Solomon7 04-11-2007, 04:20 PM I'm looking at a 96 manual and it sayswith a class 3 hitch, auto trans. w/cooler, 4.0 L 4x4 9060 lbs , vehicle weight included. Sounds like that is at 5000 lb max for class 3 and the weight of the rig. I wouldn't go over 2000 though cuz it will get pretty hairy at road speeds. Leave that rear sway on if youre going to tow that weight, or you're not gonna have fun over 35mph! I know the 9060 sounds insane but I'm just quotin' the manual GCWR max. still sounds like way more than anyone I know has towed.Ever! brainyass 04-12-2007, 06:27 AM I towed around 3K lbs for 1K miles. It's not something I would want to do again. When the trailer starts swaying, it will make you think twice at doing 60mph around a curve. Check the tongue weight max if you plan on towing something heavy. I figured that a Cherokee could tow around 3.5K lbs w/Class III hitch, but the sway is too much. neon_rt 05-03-2007, 07:59 PM Factory rating is 2000 pounds including driver. Subtract any other weight you add to the vehicle. There are a number of reasons for the low rating with the manual transmission, driver stupidity is one. Not calling anyone here stupid, technical reasons exist for rating. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
