Hello everyone
I have been have some starting problems with my 99 4runner v6 4wd this winter and I thought was related to cold weather and old battery. I have changed the battery and everything was OK for a while but I still had some problems from time to time. Lately, when I try to start it I get a “click” and nothing else while all the dash lights are on. After two or three attempts it eventually turns OK. Last night something different happened:
it has attempted to turn over, and struggled, so I disengage the ignition back to ON and its STILL TRYING TO TURN OVER ON ITS OWN!!!!!!, after about 10 seconds it stopped on its own. I waited about two minutes then try again, and it started OK.
Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

sounds like it could be an ignition switch problem.

It is also possible that it is your starter solenoid contacts. They are responsible for more problems with starting than any other part. They are easy and cheap to replace (once the starter is out of the truck).

Some grease on the plunger may solve the sticking.

I asked my mechanic to change the starter contacts which I got from the dealer and the problem was solved.
Thanks everyone.
