what is cold start injector switchrubs 04-05-2007, 02:40 PM Hi, My mechanic told me that i need to get the cold start switch or cooler sensor to fix my cold morning startup issues but i am not able to see nay that parts and only thing people know is coolant sensor etc. Is they are same thing? This is for 1998 4 cyl camry. Thanks --rubs Mike Gerber 04-05-2007, 03:29 PM Your 98 4 cylinder 2.2 liter 5SFE engine will have only a coolant temperature sensor, and not have a cold start time switch. Toyota calls the engine coolant temperature sensor an ECT sensor. It's a sensor that senses coolant temperature to determine the temperature of the engine. It screws in to one of the coolant passages in the engine. It sends a signal to the main engine computer, where the computer will decide how rich or lean the fuel mixture needs to be. This effects cold starting and also normal running of the engine. The cold start time switch was used on older generation Camrys (generation 1 and 2) to activate only the seperate the cold start injector (an extra injector in the intake plenum), to richen up the mixture to faciliate cold starting. These older generations still have an ECT sensor, but it only controls normal (warm) temperature engine function. Mike dosser 05-07-2007, 03:26 PM Have been looking for info. about a similar problem on the mother-in-laws 96 Camary. This will give me a starting point. First problem is the car is 2 1/2 hr away so thanks for the starting point. Mike Gerber 05-07-2007, 05:01 PM Have been looking for info. about a similar problem on the mother-in-laws 96 Camary. It will only have an ECT sensor (engine coolant temperature sensor). Bought the car, and found it was the IAC valve that was bad. In-laws were told 9 years ago that the ECM was bad and couldn't afford to replace it so suffered with it all those years. Runs great now. It is going into the body shop for some minor body work and detailing. Swapping body work for electrical with my neighbor (he owns the shop). Only 80k on the car. Will be selling my 94 Corolla (it only has 80k on it too). vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
