Hi, I have a 1995 Chevy Caprice LT1.
The car goes forward fine but doesn't do anything in reverse.
Transmission fluid is fine.
Anyone know what this could be a possible sympton of?
Thanks.

There seems to be a lot of this going on lately.

Pay attention to how it shifts in forward. If it shifts late from first directly into third, then you likely have a broken/stripped reaction sun shell hub:

Before this happened, the transmission never slipped or hesitated or anything like that. It ran perfect. Do you think it could be a neutral safety switch or something like that?

No. The fact that it didn't slip or anything before lends even more credence to the broken sun gear shell theory. These tend to fail abruptly.

The picture above is from my own transmission which failed in late June of last year. The failure was abrupt and the failure-causing 1-2 (1-3-1) shift was quite violent. Prior to that, the transmission was perfect.

Don't expect to find much in the way of debris in the pan. When mine broke, there was no debris in the pan and the fluid was a nice, clear, cherry red color.

There are other possible causes, but a more thorough description of all the symptoms will be helpful.

How does it shift through the forward gears?

Is there delay in engagement from neutral to OD?

Are there any noises in any range?

If you allow it to run in REVERSE for a length of time, does it do anything indicating it is trying to engage? Even when revving the engine?

Are there any warning lights?

What is the fluid level and condition?

Does it operate differently with temperature changes?

The car shifts fine in all forward gears.
There is no delay between neutral to OD.
Once in a while there is a weird "sifting" noise while driving.
In reverse, the car does nothing at all, not even when revving the engine.
There are no warning lights on.
Fluid level and condition is fine.
It operates the same in all temperatures I've driven it in.
