Can anyone tell me where and what the starter looks like on a 1997 Mit. Montero Sport. This morning my car would not start. My father cleaned the battery cables (new battery) because there was some corrosion on one of the cables. My neighbor comes over and said it sounded like the starter. He looked under the front end and tapped on the starter and it started fine. Now that it is parked in my drive, it will not start. I don't know what to tap on. I was going to take it into the shop tomorrow to have the starter replaced, but I didn't want it towed. HELP HELP HELP:screwy:

Starter is a cylindrical part physically connected directly to the engine block. On my 1990 Montero it's near the bottom of the engine on the passenger side (right side of vehicle).

There's also a solinoid which is another smaller cylindrical object which is connected to the starter.

HTH.
