I agree about the skyline's looking bad, but the viper isn't that bad looking. And when you talk about "American" gluttony, even with the V10 8.3 L engine, it weights 300 pounds less than an R34 Skyline..... Americans are obviously doing something right. No way I am Pro-American cars, I am just Pro-High Performance cars, I don't believe that cars should be "dissed" because of where they come from, thats just stupid. Also, something I forgot to mention, the bigger engines aren't just for HP its for massive amounts of Torque. :evillaugh longlivetheZ 10-11-2002, 08:28 PM I don't think the Lines were that bad looking. I hope they play a bigger part in this movie. If they had been a part in the last one, that RX-7 wouldn't have been the baddest racer. If that is true, then may the viper be the epitome of America and retardism for better engine performance. that means efficiency. DeViL 10-12-2002, 12:04 AM You don't know what the hell you are talking about. Look at it this way, Chevrolet uses a 350 cubic inch engine, and the max horsepower they got out of the LS1 variation was 350 horsepower. The typical 427 of the 60's produced around 430 hp. Stop looking at it as Liters and look at it as cubic inches because liters seems to throw you people off. Only 500 hp out of 8 liters, what the hell do you mean only 500 hp. The engine is 500 cubic inches, and since most engines power doesn't go much above the ci of it, it should be around 500 hp. The engine isn't lacking anything at all so what are you complaining about. Keep in mind these engines are also single over head cam, a very basic V block and they can produce a lot more power then most of the DOHC engines you typically see on Japanese and European cars. Sorry that this is off topic but its necessary. Anyways lol I bet those 03 Vipers get their ass kicked by the Eclipses and the rest of the shit. I wouldn't be surprised with the attitude of "Super Rice Wing and NOS make me go Zoom, me go 1000 mph cuz me got 4 cylinder wheeee!!!". I'll just be in the theatre like...bullshit......bullshit.....bullshit......er rrr. Whats up with the pink S2000 though? I can understand it having a girl car that is pink, but damn they went all out, pink fuzzy seats and all wtf. thrasher 10-12-2002, 03:20 AM Well, to put it bluntly Devil, No, you are wrong. First off, A viper does not have a SOHC engine, it is OHV. This means that the engine block contains one overhead camshaft. SOHC means one camshaft per bank, which equals 2, and DOHC means 2 camshafts per bank, which equals 4. And yeah, 1 hp per ci might have cut it 20 years ago, but a decent engine makes much, much more than that. Let's look at a few examples. 1 Ferrari Enzo-366 CI=660HP 2 Aston Martin DB7-366 CI=414HP 3 Acura RSX-S-122 CI=200HP 4 Honda S2000-122 CI=240 HP 5 Nissan Max-213 CI=255HP 6 Acura TL-S-195 CI=260 HP 7 Porsche 911-219 CI=320HP 8 Toyota Celica GTS-109 CI=180HP 9 BMW M3-195 CI=333HP 10 Honda Accord EX-183 CI=240HP You get the picture. And those aren't all even high performance vehicles, either. It is a commonly accepted fact that DOHC engines produce much more power than OHV, that is why more and more cars use them these days. American companies refuse to put them in some vehicles because it is much easier, not to mention cheaper to manufacture an engine that is much bigger with a lot less technology. I guarantee you that if a Viper engine (8.3 liter) was DOCH and was tuned to match European/Japanes specs, it could easily produce 800 hp. I'm just saying that you have to look at reality here. Granted, a Viper has a lot of torque, but like I said, were it DOHC, it would have a whole h*ell of a lot more. :flipa: :bandit: blindwhite 10-12-2002, 05:15 AM Originally posted by DeViL You don't know what the hell you are talking about. I can understand it having a girl car that is pink, but damn they went all out, pink fuzzy seats and all wtf. How many people forget that power doesn't come from engine size? Do you work in Detroit? You can make the engine bigger and stronger, but it may not be the strongest and win a race. First, the speed of the car in relation to it's engine is nothing if it can't put the power straight to the floor. You may say that the bigger ci engine produces more torque, but TOO MUCH torque means burn out. Burn out means that the tires' surface area overlapping the ground below is skidding over the ground, not gripping. And for those who never took physics, Surface area or section width of the tire plays no role in increasing or decreasing friction between the tire and ground for friction is constant, it only allows weight to be transferred over a greater area and better cooling of the tires so that they may last longer. Although, it is proven that more, yet just enough, torque is needed to accelerate faster out of a corner - being that the car is AWD. There is an issue out there on the magazine stands that shows tests on this with a Subaru Imprezza WRX (AWD), Acura RSX (FWD), and a BMW 3 series (RWD). In addition, remember that there is more friction with the ground when the tire is rolling and not skidding, hence why they created Anti-Lock Braking Systems for shorter stopping distances. Second, doesn't anyone know that there is a column of air over a 100 miles up through the atmosphere for every square inch of ground that your car rolls on? That whole column or air produces 14.7 psi! Now your say to yourself, "where have I heard psi before?". Turbo's and Superchargers(or Blowers to you ci loving hotrodders) is what you come up with. Yes, you think of that because they are related. Your normally aspirated larger cc engine may suck in A LOT more AIR in regards to VOLUME and in relation to an engine half your size; but, going back to that column of air producing 14.7 psi, the large displacement engine's cylinders do not completely fill up its volume with air at BDC to have a pressure equal to the atmospheric pressure of 14.7 because of friction and air restrictions along the intake track. That 14.7 is what an engine performance tech would also call the Stoichiometric ratio. For every 14.7 parts of air you add/mix one part of Hydrocarbon. Meaning to say, that unless you are getting EXACTLY 14.7 parts of air in a cylinder, you do not add 1 part of fuel. 14.7 psi measured in the cylinder is 100% Volumetric Efficiency. Anything less that is definitely NOT 100%. Now, I'd estimate that the single camshaft V engine has a volumetric efficiency of only 8-10psi(i dunno, correct me if I'm wrong), but it is definitely not 14.7. And what if you took a car with that engine to near Colorado Springs and drive it up that hill climb? You take that 500(bhp?) Viper up that hill the best you can and you'll never beat the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo which happens to be the fastest so far to get up there. Reason for your poor performance? Inefficiency and the fact that at the end of the race you were producing 90 less horsepower. On the other hand, if you take the Skyline GT-R tuned to 500hp or more up that hill, then you'll make it up there faster then your previous trial with the Big Block, and probably with enough gas to beat the Big Block down the hill. Reason for this Skyline victory is because on it's way up the hill it maintained as close as possible it's Volumetric Efficiency. As a matter of fact, it doing 500+ hp says that it is doing more work than at 100% 14.7 psi. It may be taking in a volumetric efficiency of 25psi. 14.7 plus 14.7 is nearly 30psi. That's like having TWO engines IN ONE. No wonder the Small volume High performance DOHC engine is beating the Single V Big Block. Its working more to fill it's cylinders with air two times more than itself, and three times more than the Big Block. At the top of that hill, the Skyline will still be producing 500 hp because it's lungs are still drawing in 25 or so psi, as compared to the Big Block Single camshaft drawing in less. Third, if you want to measure ci to hp ratios then here is your Final Thought. You say the Dodge Viper has an engine of 8 Litres. 8 times 61 is 488. That means the engine is 488 cubic inches. The horsepower is 500(bhp?). That leaves us with a ratio of 1.02 hp per cubic inch. Now, the Skyline GT-R R34 has an engine of 2.6 Litres. 2.6 times 61 is 158. That gives us an engine that is 158 cubic inches. The horsepower at stock is 280. That my steel junkie is a a ratio of 1.77hp per cubic inch. Does 1.77 look larger than 1.02 to you on the real number line? How about if we take the Skyline GT-R around the Vipers ballpark? 316 cubic inches with 500+ Horsepower. The 8 litre beating Skyline has a power to volume ratio of ATLEAST 1.58 hp per cubic inch. My numbers may be off, but it still shows that 1.58 is greater than 1.02. (Thanks to thrasher for additional info on other cars producing more than 1.02 hp per cubic inch. DOHC helps intake fullfill better volumetric efficiency). Sorry this is off topic but its necessary. If you don't understand a word I said, then just think about one thing: Formula One 3.0 litre V-10 producing 800 Horsepower at 18,000 RPM. Or, just ask what is hard to comprehend and I'm sure someone here will answer. :D :flipa:  :sun: Fly Rice Racer 10-12-2002, 08:48 AM Originally posted by igor@af http://www.automotiveforums.com/img/faf2/11.jpg http://www.automotiveforums.com/img/faf2/12.jpg This is so wierd. The one on the tow truck looks more stock, but focus on the wheels and front bumper kit. The one on the lawn has a different bumper and wheels. I never comented on the movie yet......geez. The movie better be good and not have a drag race consisting of over a hundred cars lining the street this time. o.0' Fly Rice Racer 10-12-2002, 02:24 PM I realize that they are two different cars, but it's just wierd that they have the EXACT same paint job. It makes me wonder if it is either a Mitsubishi paint job idea or if the owner at NOPI saw some pics of the FAF2 car and decided to copy it. It was just funny to me that I had seen that car before. QuickSilverEF9 10-12-2002, 04:17 PM Half of the members on AF are only here because of that whack movie.... Just check out the 92+ civic forum (don't get me wrong there are some pretty tight civics in that forum but there is also too much rice to throw a chop stick at.) The fact that they will now be using one of my favorite cars in that lame film comes as a sharp stinge of pain to my heart. Skylines are to beautiful to have stickers of cheap american companys that don't even make parts for that car plastered on them. The Fast and the Furious brought a plethorem of recognition to the import scene... but alot of the recognition is derived from cheap work and the false knowledge derived from the movie. Fliquer 10-13-2002, 01:51 AM Ok enough import/domestic bashing. They both have their strongpoints. Imports have engineering, domestics have perfomance-per-dollar. BETTER, much much better than FF1, but still, LOSE THE WING SPOILERS! It is positively pointless to have such a big wing on any street car, and the paint jobs have to go. I mightl ike it if it was grey stripes on a BLUE Skyline. the front airdam/splitter is asctrually not that bad here, but the wing just has to go. Also the rest of the cars look WAY overdone again. The pink S2000 looks OK at besy, gay at wirst, but it is going to be a chicks car you know. The Vipers, I really hope they are in it, because they are the one true bare bones sportscar in that movie. TRD300EX14 10-13-2002, 12:08 PM Well, one thing is better, they have cooler cars in this one. But not all of them are sweet. First off they Skylines look pretty hott, but there are too many stickers on it and in bad locations on the car. Next, that pink S2000 is gay as a mother, I've seen some pretty sweet ones that they could have chose. THEN I CANT BELIEVE THEY TOOK THOSE EVOLUTION VII'S AND TURNED THEM INTO THOSE UGLY ASS THINGS. What they hell is wrong with people, the Evo is the hottest car and they ruined the look of it with that gay paint job, stickers, rear spoiler. Who agrees on that? The others arent that bad, the eclipses, vipers, etc. They shouldn't of taken that supra, I have seen better. Hopefully we see a WRX in there and some other nice cars. Just hopefully no Civics or other dumb cars. Also, a sweet ass Celica would be good and a RSX Type S. I think they were looking at Rob Shaw's Impreza WRX to put in it and if you look at that car, it's the hottest WRX you will see. Check it out at imoprtstreet-south.com and go to featured cars. I (going almost every weekend to street races sence I was 13 have NEVER seen so many show quality cars lining the street. When there were actully show quality cars there they never raced, because they spent too much money fixing up the exterior and not the engine(except a basic muffler, intake and headers). The ones that do race are the beaters. In my opinion, Honda made a good car for the value they sold it at. That's why Honda had such excellent sales because when the car was introduced, it was the best choice out of other manufacters. Then, they kept improving off of that which led to more sales and the fact that kids bought them. The car was built for kids first cars and aftermarket manufacturers saw how popular the car became and produced products for it. It is a chain reaction. I tend to hate civics now cause of how much I see them and of how gay they look when kids buy them to soup up and to make them think they are soo cool. But then there are some that have taste and make the car look hott, those are the smart kids. And the older style civics were sweet looking, this new design is ugly as hell, I can't stand to look at it. I don't think it is going to be as popular as it use to, there are a lot more manufacturers producing better cars for the same price. civicHBsi91 10-14-2002, 03:54 PM as for new cars i think they are all ugly civic, neon, cavalier, accord, bug the new cars that i think look sweet are the wrx,350z *they look way better in real life*, the vw's besides the bug, thats all i can think of right now sparq 10-14-2002, 04:00 PM Vipers? To get lots of torque, you need lots of stroke and large combustion area both of which makes the engine bigger. Japanese and Euro sports cars make good Peak horsepower but their torque output, especially low - midrange RPM can't match the V8's or the V10. For the money it would take to make the 6's compete, you could put the V8's well out of their reach. Don't get me wrong, I like the Japanese sports cars, the Impreza WRX and Supra TT especially, but call a spade a spade before you call the Viper's V-10 inefficient. Based on engine efficiency, the V-10 natural loses. That was proven a long time ago. Do not bring up torque and acceleration because yes they are needed yet acceleration does not happen if too much torque is applied and there is no AWD to the least. You will slide on the corner and experience imperfect steer. That was already stated as well. Japanese and Euro cars can and do make good peak horse power in comparison to American, torque is mostly generated at low to mid RPM, and for many cars Japanese and Euro, they make plenty more torque than horsepower, and within the same low to mid RPM range as an American. The torque can and most likely does match between 6's and 8's. Remember that you can use torque to find horsepower in equation. You also need to push a weight far enough in a faster time. Sure, with the same amount of money to compete a 6 cyl., lets slap on a supercharger or two to the viper and do a job well done. That would probably be over a hundred thousand american dollars. An R34 having work done to the same budget or less could make the same or more power than the viper, and yet still be more advanced with it's Electronic torque splitting AWD and four wheel steering. That's an expected gain of a second every lap for the R34 compared to the RWD Viper. Remember, reach to acheive as much of 100% or more of an engines POTENTIAL. R34 meets and beats that. The Viper breathes through one and only one nostril. Just say it's inefficient. Both cars are great and can beat the average jo(k)e on the street. They are STRONG. But I see that many like I hate the new body of the Viper and think it looks better the way it was before. The movie: wait and watch it. race that car you take pride in. and recieve a ticket. We see nice pics here; some hate some cars, and love the others. After all, the pictures are what this thread is all about. And somebody must have spent a lot of money on those horrible stickers obviously to get your attention, and it works. Someone chose to speak of inefficiency, not about which car can run over a cow in the worst possible way. Spade. V-10 natural is inefficient. Back to critiquing the FaF2 car photos............. 91HBSi 10-17-2002, 10:00 AM Yeah Grendel, you're probably right. Jaggy 10-18-2002, 09:48 AM you people sure make me laugh. over here arguin domestics and imports. lets face it they both have their ups and downs. American cars - made with big engines, big gas eaters, big power, big torque (well, for the most part) oh yes, did I mention big gas eaters ? well you can get decent gas milage as long as you dont pass 2500 rpm lol. viper, corvette, saleen, etc. yes they eat lots of gas, but were not made to be daily drivers. they were meant for people that want a high performance car and dont care about gas, dont usually have intentions to tune the car, and want to be fast. Jap cars - made with small engines, good gas milage, shitty power, and torque, we wont really get into that. I'll give respect to a few that were meant to be performance cars. the 3000gt vr4 (yea yea yea, it's a boat, weighs 37xx pounds (almost 2 ton's), etc. but there are a few things you guys dont know. you can rev it up to even redline, dump the clutch, and you beraly spin the tires, all you do is take off, wwhhheeeeee, it handles like a dream, it has a great LUXURY interior, full leather, etc), the rx7, toyota supra (love the car, only complaint is the interior, kind of a plane interior but I still want one), 300zx (they needed to invest a bit more money in those, my stock vr4 does circles around a stock tt 300z, but I will give them credit on top-end), acura nsx (wow, what a gorgeous car). all these cars were made to be competition to the american muscle/high performance cars. in general the americans had and most still have the theory of simple is better, which I agree with. to a degree. look at something else. the 3000gt vr4 is faster than the camaros, corvettes, and trans ams. that is ofcourse until 97-98 when they changed engines. the LS1 engines are good. stock for stock my ws6 walks my vr4, but it does so slowly. my vr4 takes almost all cars off the line and it's a lot of fun. now as for your debate between the skyline and the viper racing up the mountain/hill/forgot what it was, lets think of what you said. a "TUNED TO 500+ HP SKYLINE" there is a key word here and that's "TUNED" most people that buy the vipers buy them for their name and reputation and usually have no intentions of "TUNING" the car. if you tune the skyline, why not tune the viper. you invest 1000 in the skyline, invest 1000 in the viper. make the race more realistic. and to finish this long speach (hmm is anyone sleeping yet ?), hondas and toyotas were made to be economical and reliable cars. that goal was reached. the s2000 is the only honda that I can think of that was not meant to be economical, it was a great attempt at a race car. hit the target pretty good for a 4 cylinder. but my vr4 is still faster :-D just say it's due to the two extra cylinders, and the turbos and it's all good hehe. Jaggy blindwhite 10-18-2002, 11:22 AM now someone is arguing over some things other than efficiency. haha, see, no one can just talk about FaF2 pictures. I doubt you can "better tune" a viper for a 1000 dollars to meet and/or beat for that race. The race was realistic. the viper can only afford to take the hood off. It's inefficient. are you back on track now? Skyline GT-R definitely does that, and the moron that agreed to do that to the car in the movie needs to be kicked in the nuts by a Skyline GT-R most definitely. How dare go so low as to do that to a car for more money. BingBingMa 10-20-2002, 12:20 AM doesnt really matter, at least they have a skyline, even tho it is ugly, looks rnt that important, i woudl rather have sleeper anyday, like a 20b powered 2nd gen AWD protege/familia sedan. heheheheh.....:D gotbike78 10-20-2002, 01:44 AM thats what I am talking about. You see the Skyline was built to be a super car. I am all about sleepers, I have a volkwagon that will kick you in the nuts too. The fact still remains that Nissan teases us by making statements that they will bring it over, then they don't. They have done that more than once in the last 10 years. My whole problem with the Craig Lieberman Experience and all thet APC Kids that follow him is that sticker kits and funny light bulbs don't make you fast. Nitrous when used improperly blows engines, that big Carbon fiber wing on that civic doesn't do a whole heck of a lot, and whoever said graphic kits were cool must have been partying with some 80's hair band. I know I will still go watch the movie, but the whole reason I started my shop is because I got so sick of all of the shops in St. Louis, Mo selling nothing but junk and charging way too much for labor. I know a guy who has a 94 Accord Ex who had a H22a Prelude engine installed by a well known shop here and they charged him $5000 to do a $3000 job. They told him he wouldn't have air conditioning or power steering. Can you believe that?!?!? I am sure that there are more shops like this one around the country too. It makes me very sad that The Fast and the Furious brought so much hype to our industry that it killed the quality of the products and the labor. One funny thing a friend of mine said to me the other day was that guys and girls that wrench in "Tuning Shops" couldn't make it in the real working as a mechanic. pretty funny huh. Anyway I am stepping off of my soap box now. If you want good quality parts and prices with no BS visit me at www.advantagemts.com out site is still under construction so please don't ming the mess Thanks Andy blindwhite 10-20-2002, 02:24 AM Sounds good man. I would agree with you on the character of shops. if you think about it, they probably do that because they are bastards that want the money in order to puy those precious parts they need for their own cars which they dont have to pay 2000 dollars to get installed. I believe in profit, but not ripoff's. I myself would like to make my old ass Accord EX a sleeping h22 supercharged monster. Shell Valley Cobra, in Nebraska has sold and delivered 5 Shelby Cobras to the FAF2 set in FL. 4 of the cars were bare bones, and the 5th was all decked out for close ups and for the "hero" of the flick to drive. The salesman, who is a very close family friend, was told 4 of the cars would most likly be wrecked in shooting, how sad. This puts an intersting twist on the the feel of the cars, getting a pure horsepower american classic like the cobra will be a nice touch to this movie. killa ganj 10-21-2002, 11:18 PM I don't know if it is just me, but the last Fast and the Furious was based in USA, hence the left hand drive cars. The GTR's and the Pink Viper in those pictures are right hand drive cars, so unless FAF2 is going to be based in Japan, or somewhere that converting a viper from left to right hand drive(or vice versa) for road legal registration, I would say those pictures could just be of some car show in Japan. Nice pictures though. there is no law stating that steering wheels belong on the left or right hand side. its just what the companies build becuz we drive that way. & there is only 1 story of somebody making the righthand-drive Skyline GTR a left hand conversion, & that was in Saudi Arabia, i think. www.skylinegtr.com will sell you a US street legal Skyline, right hand drive of course. Ice Runs 9s 10-23-2002, 03:37 AM To the guy that was complaining about the steering-wheels being on the right hand side and saying the photos were from a Japanese car show:  Check the original movie - the Skyline GTR driven by the character "Leon" was a right-hand drive. This is because Skylines were (still are?) illegal in the United States - and must be imported from Japan. Hence, the right-hand drive. They've got no qualms about using right-hand drive cars - because thats part of the diversity, thats PART of the import scene. If you're getting cars from Japan - some people keep them as right-hand drives, some people shell out for the conversion. Personally, I can't wait for the sequel - the story line sounds pretty interesting. (You can find out very detailed story summaries, and character traits at various sites on the web - if you want directions, just ask me) Anyway, I don't care too much about the storyline - I just want action scenes, fights, explosions, fast cars and PLENTY of close ups of those hot bods (the cars that is). I loved the first movie - right from the opening scene I was hooked on those cars - partly because I have a thing for neons under the chassis - and those Civics looked good. People think I'm strange, because I've seen the movie so many times - but I just love cars. Thats another reason they think I'm weird - because I'm a girl. Anyone got a problem with Girl Racers? -Ice :frog: Ice Runs 9s 10-23-2002, 03:44 AM Haha, I think someone half-mentioned this before; but, it was kind of... entertaining the constant gear shifting. For example, when Brian was driving Dom in the Mitsubishi Eclipse (after escaping the 'police raid') The whole time they driving, you periodically hear the blow-off valve going - as Brian is apparently constantly shifting gears, although maintaining constant speed and having no need to change gears. Also, the really lame thing of "ooh.. look I changed up a gear (for the 10th time - gee must be.. really "special" cars.. huh) I can now go faster". :bloated: Ah well, all fun and games. I don't recommend going to watch that or its sequel with an eye for detail. You'll find lots of technical flaws - but hey, its a movie right? ;) tnkt23 10-25-2002, 04:30 PM ;) Those are such nice cars! :flipa: :bandit: Pardon me, but OHV means NO cams over the head!! The only reason for putting over-head cams on a car is to reduce valvetrain friction and mass. Yes, pushrods engines can put out the same power numbers as an OHC engine, the position of the cam has nothing to do with available lift, duration, or ramp-angle. One only other benefit to OHC designs is more freedom to open the combustion chamber as in "Hemi" heads. Hmmmm, hemi-heads! Weren't those introduced by Chrysler in the early 60's?? Leave they engineering to the ENGINEERS, and if you think your S2000 with 240 hp can take my '87 Grand National with it's 230 hp V6, bring it on!! Murco 10-26-2002, 01:25 AM Originally posted by blindwhite Second, doesn't anyone know that there is a column of air over a 100 miles up through the atmosphere for every square inch of ground that your car rolls on? :D :flipa:  :sun: Pikes Peak is more of a traction race than horsepower, you forgot that 80% of it is DIRT!! I doubt it would take forever and a day to rev and run the car up in first gear to 8300. the car is still light and an engine like that happens to rev to peak rather quickly, no slower than any other. After first gear it does not matter anymore about reaching peak because the rpm drops within the normal intervals of an upshift and the cars matched gear ratios; of course the RPM is going to already be up there ready for the next gear. Pop the clutch above 2000 with solid engine mounts and the car will reach peak in good time since the engine has less total mass to fight against. Engine itself is slightly oversquare and not a stroker, hence why the high rev. Maybe if the car was as heavy as the Grand National would the S2000 fall behind. BingBingMa 10-28-2002, 10:09 AM actually i dont think history is all that important, i still havent found any practical usage for all the years of histoyr ive learned, the importance of what happened before is not that significant, just because somehting has been someway doesnt mean it should stay that way. but thats really getting off the topic of the cars, blindwhite is correct in his argument about volumetric efficiency, even if he does not articulate it the best. a dohc will outperform the any ohv in a wide range of situations due to its ability to ingest for air, and thats the bottom line, no fancy calculations r needed. HAHA!! If you think about it, History is good when you learn it then and there and never think about it again. You MAKE a DIFFERENT future, and history is a repeating UPWARD spiral. So why say the past is important when we presume it is just going to happen again(the next level in the spiral)? You are not supposed to continue thinking about the past, just remember it, and the future should follow the forward line to what is better, but the up's and down's will obviously repeat again. The Future should never be the same as the past. Don't dwell on the past history. We are off topic.......so what about those cars? I think this thread is done.:licker: Big Pat 10-28-2002, 04:40 PM Well, I sure hope FAF2 is a better movie than FAF. Computer generated drag races? Give me a break! How hard is it to film a drag race? All you guys that have been at drage races know that it is not possible to exchange lead more than once - you get smoked or you smoke the other - unless some misshap happens (blown engine, missed gear, engine "hiccup"). That S2000 is a bit to pink for my taste, but I suppose there is a market for that. Not a big fan of Gold cars either. And if I may add to the american iron/import efficiency debate, let me paraphrase what I heard from a guy on High Rev Tuners (Speed Channel): "Sure, those import tuned engines are very evolved and technical marvels. Sure, they push out more than 200hp/liter, but the fact is, they have 450hp , and I have 600..." Hard to fault that statement, innit? BTW, I am a fan of hightech engine, but facts are facts... Oh and finally, about that: yet, in every other racing venue in the world were horribly inefficient US cars compete head-to-head with others, WE ALWAYS WIN!!! That is just plain wrong. Ask Don Panoz - his "big cubes" Ford powered LMP900 cars have had their ass handed to them for the third straight year by Audi in ALMS. And up til around 1995, there was a reserve in the Indy 500 rules to allow N/A 454 engine powered car to run - guess what? everybody stuck with their 2.65L turbo engines. Winston Cup cars use the big iron engines not because they are better, but because they are not allowed to run anything else. They used to have OHC engines in WC - they were banned because it was an "unfair advantage". During the 80s, Ford Europe ran Cosworth Sierras in Touringf car races - more than 500hp from a 2l Turbo 4 banger. And it ran in 24hrs long events too. Really, they only place where I think the old style engines are still king of the roost is High end Drag racing. my .02$ (OK, maybe.05$ ;) ) gemballa 10-28-2002, 04:45 PM computer generated races???? that sucks! Big Pat 10-28-2002, 05:05 PM Well, the first big race in FAF1 was computer generated... It sure did suck for all those lights to flash by like the cars were going light speed and beyond, and for nearly a minute too! That long and they weren't even that far away from where all the cars were parked in the street where they had started. Last time I have seen races, a huge gardners truck(really!) did not even take 20 seconds to get to the end of 1320. That was funny because the man on the speakers presenting the race that day said, "Hey, I hope this guys boss knows where he is right now. I guess he had a strange urge to race his truck on lunch break." Maybe we'll have an ending like the first movie except this time it's the pink car doing a back flip while racing a super-pinto, both nearly missing a run-away bread truck. Jamgal71 10-29-2002, 05:40 AM I can confirm for dure 100% these are FAF2 cars. :flipa: :bandit: Your an idot, you have absolutely no idea what it take to build an engine of any kind. Only ricers argue that HP per Liter is a valid way of judgeing a cars performance or worth. Taking a pushrod V8 and converting it to DOHC will make you NO more HP. You make power in the heads, the more air they flow, the higher velosity of air, the more efficient they are, the more power the engine makes. And HP per Liter still means NOTHING. HP to weight and RWHP are what count. "I'm just saying that you have to look at reality here" blindwhite 10-30-2002, 05:28 PM I've never seen such stubborn foolishness. How about "the fast and the sleepers". Wouldn't that show them sticker crazed people? destrux 10-31-2002, 11:53 AM Who cares about the whole import vs american thing... you people need to realise that all of your cars are the same... they're all CARS. (or trucks.. but still... THE SAME). I mean, get over it. You all are into the same hobby, some like show, some like go, some like big displacement, some small.... but the point is, no matter what you like.... IT'S STILL A CAR. Can't we all just shut our egotistical mouths and get along? that's a dumb question... and btw... vipers are great if you can afford one, but I've seen dsm's with under $25k into them (still street legal, and that price includes the car) absolutely stomp a viper at the drag strip and at an autocross. They weren't turbo vipers or anything... but they weren't stock. The dsms had about 500-550whp. The vipers were around 600. They cost..what... $80,000? but anyway The cars are way better looking than the last movie. I do think it sucks how they left the vipers simple and clean looking but riced out the skylines. I really would have like to see a nice clean cobalt blue skyline race one of those vipers. Oh yeah, and APC is really generic. Everyone and they're brother has APC junk all over they're cars anymore. Then again... maybe it's better the movie uses the generic brands, it keeps the "cool" stuff from being too common. What's a DSM?? The best Hennessy Viper at the last Track-Day at Road Atlanta was 2 seconds behind my Camaro which puts down about 520 hp at the wheels. Your point is well made, though. The one thing that does bring us all to the table is a love of cars. Maybe we (and me too) should keep that in mind... Just don't rev that Civic next to me at a light! :finger: aSiAnRiCk 11-01-2002, 01:29 PM Hey what's going on guys My name is Rick and I'm new on this board. Actually, I joined just so I can give some insiders on this thread (though this forum looks cool so I might here to stay :) ) ME and MY CAR was there at the F&F2 filming. I'm talking about the same exact set as the one you see in these pictures so of course, I know exactly what were there and WHY they were chosen, etc. Anyway .... That blue/silver Eclipse IS THE SAME ONE as the one you see at NOPI. Fly Rice Racer, you were correct. Yes, he had a new paint job done for the movie. I met the owner at Hot Import Nights in Orlando, FL couple of weeks ago. http://www.automotiveforums.com/img/faf2/12.jpg & http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/861094NOPI017.jpg The reason why they have couple of the same exact cars in the movie is because just in case one messed up, they have another one to replace. For example, they were filming Paul Walker "racing" in the Skyline, with a camera mounted on the side of the car. Well, he lost control and hit a curb with the Skyline. He messed up the back right tire. So tow truck came, towed that Skyline and here comes another one that they got so we move on. By the way, when we heard the crash, everyone was like "Oh No, not the Skyline!" instead of worrying more of Paul Walker lol The colors you see on the cars in those pictures are the colors that will be in the movie. The Pink S2000 will be driven by Devon Aoki. Her name in the movie is Suki. This S2000 going to crash during the street racing against the gray Skyline, orange RX7 and gold Supra. Its because when they film Devon came back after the race, she's driving the S2000 without the front bumper =/ They had a CASTING CALL down in Homestead, FL to choose cars to be used as extras for the movie. Out of the 500+ cars that were there, they only chose about 100 something cars. They look at many different aspects. Graphics, neons and strobes, colors, and more. So I think the reason why they chose that black Camaro (that's not Z28) was because of the graphics. She also has underbody neon. http://community.webshots.com/photo/51581584/52870536WbNfSf I was picked out because of my white interior, white rims, police strobe and underbody neon. Oh yeah, I'm sure some of you have interest in how much the extras will be making lol. I'm getting paid $125/day to have me and my car in the movie. Its pretty good considering my car just parked there and look pretty lol and I do couple of stuff but when I'm tired, I just go inside my car and sleep for 3 or 4 hrs lol. The filming was for 6 days (Sat, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs and Fri) but I only stayed for 5 cuz I had to go to Orlando for HIN. I heard there were alot of the cars missing at the last day of the filming lol All the stickers you see on the cars, those are the companies supporting the movie. If you are found to have decals or logos that are not one of their supporting companies, you cant be on the set during filming. I was chillin next to my car and these wardrobe guys walked around and checking everyones outfit. This guy was wearing a hat that's made by the company that doesnt support the movie, they told him to take it off. Keep in mind, there is no logos whatsoever on this hat =/ . These guys walking around and checking out the label on the back of everyone shirts making sure everyone wearing the "right" stuff lol The filming takes place both in Miami, Florida and in Cali. I was told that supposedly Paul Walker got fired off his police work in Cali and got sent down to Miami to bust up the drug dealings that's going on in street racings. He's given a partner, another young cop, which will be Tyrese. And some kid told me that Eva Mendez is going to be another one of his partner too. (She's hot by the way lol) Where is this F&F2 opening night you guys been talking about? When the movie first come out, my upholstery place already talking to some big movie theater in the area about having our cars parked in the front by the entrance and there will be models, etc. Having a lil car show I guess .. There are about 5 cars that were chosen as extras for the movie that got their interior work done at this shop. I know some of you guys think F&F1 was whack. Honestly, I think they do have somewhat cheesy plot and lines. Heck, I think that "Street close, find another way home pizza boy", "Damn street racers" ... was super cheesy but heck, it comes out of the director himself. That pizza boy was the director of the movie! =/ But lets face it, I dont remember any other movies that are made about the street racers. This prolly the closest one yet. It helps the Import scene abudantly but these newbies with little to no knowledge the one that ruins it for everyone else. They think aluminum wing is a must for every car, mad graphics & decals will add at least 10hp to your engine, peeling out at the car hang out thinking they're cool yet ruined it for everyone. Did you guys ever notice that 99% of the time, the cars that does burnouts at the car hang out usually are the ugliest ones there?!! I hope you guys wont flame me for my comments. I like to have a good start on this message board cuz like I said, I'll be here more often (I'm active in about 4 message boards already lol) If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or email me. Thanks :flash: crxracer 11-01-2002, 03:48 PM the two cars on the back of the truck look like lancers which is pretty gay looking. BingBingMa 11-02-2002, 11:23 PM They look at many different aspects. Graphics, neons and strobes, colors, and more. So I think the reason why they chose that black Camaro (that's not Z28) was because of the graphics. She also has underbody neon. thats kinda upsetting, the fact that the movie only focuses on the more showy aspects of the import scene. Everything has to be lit up, and look really good, or else, by their perspective, it wont go fast. The fact is, if they didnt spend the money on like 100 lights all over the car, and a 8000 dollar paint job, the car would have 30 more whp. And y does everyone have to use NOS, the hollywood version of street racing is a substance bereft, glamorous shell of the real world, but i guess thats what they need to attract a mainstream crowd. Censee1 11-02-2002, 11:54 PM i was also on th set of the movie,as my car was chosen as an extra.i met the guy with the corolla that is part of the forum "AsianRick".most cars were chosen cuz of the outside and not cuz of engine mods.at the casting they didnt even ave us open our hoods, they just picked the cars based on the way they appeared on he outside.the filming was long,it was fo 6 days for about 3 minutes of the movie.hopfully it will be better than the first aSiAnRiCk 11-03-2002, 01:29 AM well ... i think they focus more on looks because after all, we're "parked" on the side of the road so uhm, i dont think performance really does matter in this scene unless you're one of the main cars which would be the SKYLINE, SUPRA, RX7 and S2000 aSiAnRiCk 11-03-2002, 01:43 AM SUP PEDRO!!! dang it man, I told you stop stalking me! :D Ugh! lol ps: 6 days? whateva ... you werent there on Friday, just like me lol :finger: Big Pat 11-03-2002, 06:40 PM but i guess thats what they need to attract a mainstream crowd What they need to attract a mainstream public is a good plot, good characters and good actors. Menu dei Motori 11-05-2002, 09:48 AM mine too absolut great and nice cars will there be a second part? Big Pat 11-05-2002, 09:49 AM Well, unbelievable stunts are expected from James Bond, since he has been doing it since 1962. Besides, I think older James Bond movies had stunts to spice up the plot, whuile the newer ones have plot to spice up the stunts... The thing is, we know that jumping from a cliff to an airplane is probably impossible. But very few people have attempted it (I hope!!), so maybe, there is a very remote possibility that it might be true (Enough "ifs" in there for ya?). However, doing a quarter mile run or a "red light grand prix" is done on a regular basis by most members of this board - so we all know that the way it was portrayed in FAF was pure and utter crap. That is what I call "insulting the intelligence of the viewer". But that is just me I guess... Unlike most people, I cannot disconnect my (half-dead) brain at the movies. Seeing a 1967 Mustang flying over a traffic jam and landing without a scratch appals me. So is seeing a car rolling over and exploding. So is seeing a car pulling a wheelie and a burn-out AT THE SAME TIME. So is changing the map of an engine in the middle of a run and so is seeing a car with a blown head gasket running from the cops. *** Steps off soapbox *** My .05$ jsb88 11-05-2002, 09:50 AM I don't thins so... BingBingMa 11-08-2002, 08:45 PM OK, we have definitely established that the vipers are indeed vipers, the person that said they werent was completly wrong, and alos, they odnt have any body kits on them as far as i can see, so the person that said they had nice body kits was also wrong, they appear to be fairly stock, but a stock viper is still fairly quick, its a nice car, if not somewhat brutish, but i guess thats in the spirit of a viper anyway. I hope the S2000 is not turbocharged, although everything seems to have turbo nowadays, its just the default form of upgrade for a all tuners, but its kinda simpel ,adn robs alot of low end power, whihc the s200 doesnt have that much of anyway, i wish peepo would stop using so much nos, u dont even need to tune up your car if u plan on shooting nos 3 tims into your engine, a stock civic could beat alot of cars wiht 3 shots of nos (that is if its engine did not blow up) I dont see y they have lancers either, if all they are goign to do is drag race, altough 4wd does have a better launch. (wish it had a misfiring system tho) Fod 11-09-2002, 04:33 AM i couldn't agree more... it seems like Turbo's are (to me anyway) a no brainer and something that any one could have bolted on to an engine but with all the supercars (except very few) going down this road surely it's understandable where everyone is turning to the instant BHP of a turbo e.g. Bugatti EB110 has no less than 4 turbos under it's Bonnet (Hood) this just says to me the engine isn't good enough and nos well thats he same theory lazy BHP increases just get a bottle plumbed in and away you go the hardest thing is trying to keep the engine intact! wont be long before people are trying compound charging ok it's not cheap but more effective than Turbo alone and a permanent engine feature unlike nos.. so i guess that means you could compound charge and nos on the same engine... if so inclined... Menu dei Motori 11-09-2002, 05:43 AM that the vipers are the new ones i try to tell you for 2 pages now... hope there wonīt be too many tuned up cars... but there probably will :( jsb88 11-09-2002, 09:44 AM I think that those vipers are actually just going in for modifying. But anywho that's enough history for one day I guess. supratuner 11-17-2002, 01:57 AM those cars are bad and the movie is going to rule the first one sucked but the cars already look better jsb88 11-17-2002, 04:22 AM You are right there, the first film was rubbish, but this is looking better now. ;) y2khai 11-17-2002, 11:07 AM Originally posted by Grendel I'm 99% sure they are vipers... :) -Grendel r u GUys taLkin bout those gReenish lookin cars? wit the big gt wings?n da clear tail lights?? coz if u r u guys r all stoopid...coz dey aint vipers dere evo7 lancers...i dont c how u can get confused wit a viper n a lancer...u guys who all thought it was a viper r fUckin stoopid :flipa: 91HBSi 11-17-2002, 11:44 AM Originally posted by y2khai r u GUys taLkin bout those gReenish lookin cars? wit the big gt wings?n da clear tail lights?? coz if u r u guys r all stoopid...coz dey aint vipers dere evo7 lancers...i dont c how u can get confused wit a viper n a lancer...u guys who all thought it was a viper r fUckin stoopid :flipa: You're an idiot...
