1983 Toyota Levin ***Progress***Honoturtle 10-10-2002, 06:20 PM I know I have posted like 3 other progress treads for diffrent cars that I haven't finished yet, but................... The car is going to be White along with Black Front and rear bumpers. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/824914moto_AE86_3-2001b.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/565797AE861.jpg Pic of Left side, check out my spoiler!!!! http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/315474AE862.jpg Right side along with some 17" TE37 rims(their going to be white). http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/322897AE863.jpg Top view http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/405556AE864.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/814881AE865.jpg Front and rear. There is some puttying to do on the spoiler+shaping. I'll post more pics as I progress Guiddy 10-10-2002, 06:23 PM Like it!!! Keep the pics coming!!! Carbon bonnet too? Would look very Gran Turismo!!!:D Purpura Delujo 10-10-2002, 06:33 PM Do you use your scanner for those pictures Hono? I might try that later if you do, well I think it looks very nice as is(with white wheels though). I agree with Guiddy, It would look nice with a Carbon Fibre bonnet, but it also looks just as nice without one, so its up to personal choice, are you making it a drifter? flyonthewall 10-10-2002, 06:53 PM Lookin good! Great job on the spoiler, gonna look great when done. MaukaRunner 10-10-2002, 07:05 PM Hey Honoturtle, Do you have a 1:1 scale "hachi". Just wondering, I have some 1:1 scale TE37's that I want to sell. They were on my Corolla GT-S. Edit: Man, I should read people's profile before I post. Maybe in a couple of years I will ask this question again. Oh well, anyone else who might be interested in my TE37's let me know. Midnight Racer 10-10-2002, 07:08 PM Keep us updated . tonioseven 10-10-2002, 07:44 PM great start!! Keep us posted please! I have on of these on the way from HLJ this week:) I would like to know about any problems before-hand so I can pre-plan my attack:cool: Max Power 10-10-2002, 08:03 PM Hey cool! I'm currently working on an AE86 Trueno! wkma7six 10-10-2002, 08:15 PM I had one of those coming along too. Well you know the rest of my story-everything is on hold for several months, errr.......years:D . Looks just like the one you posted 1:1 car. Same wheelset too. Impul Mesh rims with a nice deep lip. Mine was painted silver and then a little accident happened. I'm curious to see how this one ends up with the TE37's. Kinda different look though. Newer style rims on a an old school car. Hope you work on this one consistently with updates. -Walter primera man 10-10-2002, 08:23 PM Nice looking project you have there....now lets see it finished ;) Jay! 10-10-2002, 08:25 PM Cool... Now I'm so used to only seeing the pop-up lights, this is a refreshin change... :D Honoturtle 10-10-2002, 11:46 PM Thanks fot the comments guys! wkma7six, check this out. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/860605moto.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/279030moto1.jpg P-Man, :finger::finger::finger: You'll see this one finished!!! Don't worry!! Guiddy, Lowridders4life, I was planning on keeping the hood white, but we'll see what happens. tonioseven, man o man, you see the front of my car, how it's cut out???? All three holes have to be cut out by yourself!! Damn Fujimi! And the bottom of the rear bumper has little dips in them, you'll have to fill them! Let's see, crappy underbody detail. No darn brakes! If you plan to cut out the large hole in front of the car, you could make your own latches which I just did. If you want help on lowering the rear if the car, I can be of some help. For progress, I cut out those little stubs on the front of the car and made my own mounting latches out of stylene, I'll poost pics later today. tonioseven 10-11-2002, 12:37 AM Thanks for the info! Here are the wheels I have for mine but I don't have any paint ideas yet.ADVAN Oni 17 inch (http://www.hlj.com/cgi-local/hljpage.cgi?FUJ19228) wkma7six 10-11-2002, 12:46 AM Hey! It looks pretty good honoturtle. That size suits it perfectly - I think they're 15 or 16 inch right? Not to big, just right on that type of car. I think I'd like to see that with the gunmetal/ charcoal TE37's and an all white body. Didn't think it would look that great, but I was wrong. -Walter FINISH IT! FINISH IT! FINISH IT! :flash: :flash: :flash: Honoturtle 10-11-2002, 02:04 AM No more stubs!! http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/562898AE866.jpg Sounds like a good project toniseven. By the way, lowrider, it's going to be a Drifter. AE86=Born Drifter joecwlaw 10-11-2002, 02:33 AM Nice wheel matching. Does the rear spoiler come with the kit? or you self-make it? I feel shaving the side mold line looks more cool and exact to the 86 in the 1:1 picture. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/67197186-us.jpg Honoturtle 10-11-2002, 02:39 AM Originally posted by joecwlaw Nice wheel matching. [/img] I was planning on shaving the 1/4 moldings off, to make it like the pic. Thanks for noticing. As for the spoiler, I'm using 0.25mm stylene sheet to scratch built it. joecwlaw 10-11-2002, 02:46 AM np. I have an AE86 model as well, but haven't started to build yet...... your custom wing looks very good. :ylsuper BTW what color are you going to make? :what: willing to see your updates!!! :hehe: Honoturtle 10-11-2002, 03:22 AM Here's a pic of the modified chassis. I was trying to get a pic of the new mount, but they come out way to blurry and really hard to define what you're looking at. It's hard to get angles with a scanner. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/518549ae867.jpg And jocwlaw, I'm making white as seen in the pic with black bumpers. As for the rims, white also. joecwlaw 10-11-2002, 12:04 PM nice work , dude. Keep it up. Lownslow 10-11-2002, 12:36 PM im working on one too but its a 2DR version. always liked AE86s theyre all over Puerto Rico(my native home) theyre not drifting down there yet but soon turbos86 10-11-2002, 04:13 PM OMG, Honoturtle! You're making Moto-p's car! I can't wait to tell him this when you finish! oops, Moto-p is the webmaster/founder of Club4AG, a AE86 enthusiast club. I have a few 86 models waiting for me as well (After I'm done with my hondas, LOL) I suggest you making the mud guards bigger, cause they are not to scale...yes, damn fujimi:mad: Anyways, got any close up pics of the TRD wing? I'm planning to make one as well. Honoturtle 10-12-2002, 01:00 AM Boo yah!!!!!! Did some modifications to my roll-cage! Here's a few pics! turbos, when I'm finished with the spoiler I'll toss some pics at yah. I just added some putty to it today, and will add pics when it's dry. But I can scan my basic template of the shape I used. Then all you have to do is pop it on some card and bend and trim! By the way thanks for answering my PM and do you know the interior color scheme on Moto-P's car??? And pop some pics on here if you do. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/560620ae868.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/966758ae869.jpg Right now all it needs is some putty(to simulate welds) and sanding. Oh yeah and of course paint. turbos86 10-12-2002, 04:00 AM Nice roll cage! Hope you don't mind me saving up the pics for later:) As for moto-p's car, here's a link to 7 pages write up about his car from scrap to speedster! http://www.twelve100.com/faq%20and%20tech_pages/Moto-P's%20New%20AE86%20Part%201.html There's a link at the bottom of every page leading to the next. For the interior, he has a pair of TRD bucket seats that looks kinda weird and the interior is either black or blue. Honoturtle 10-12-2002, 10:48 PM Originally posted by turbos86 Nice roll cage! I guess I got some reading to do! kicker1_solo 10-13-2002, 02:58 AM well I hesitated clicking on this thread cause the title with the cars name in it made me think of an ugly car, but it looks like it's going to be a pretty sweet little ride. :) Honoturtle 10-14-2002, 02:42 AM Well I puttyed up my spoiler like a mad man!!!!!!!!! Coming out beautifully, I'll probably post pics of the body tomorrow. Damnit, guess what????? I start school tomorrow which sucks because I might be making little and possilbly no progress on my cars due to the damn load of work!!!!! http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/339597ae8610.jpg Ignore those rims, they are just there so eveything would remain even during the scan. Well that's the roll-cage I'm using, I might to some front bars, but we'll see. See my scratch built Speaker box out back???? That was made out of scratch plastic and for speakers I used some LIGHT BEZELS if this helps anyone at all. I'll post some "close-up's" tomorrow along with the body photos. For Interior I decided on making it Black/Gray, don't want to go too extreme on this one, I was also thinking of scratch building a LHD, but that would be a difficult project, still thinking about. By the way, did anyone ever attempt to scratch build a dash???? Or was this an AF FIRST?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?! turbos86 10-14-2002, 04:44 AM Converting RHD to LHD dash is not that hard. I did it on my Revell ITR. Just cut it up, put it back together in mirror form and add some putty :D Honoturtle 10-15-2002, 02:07 AM Hmmm.................. Still thinking about it, what if I screw up so bad, I only have 1 dash! Well here are pics of the body, http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/750772ae8611.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/290254ae8612.jpg I'll get speaker box pictures later tonight of tomorrow. kicker1_solo 10-15-2002, 02:20 AM looking very cool, sucks about school. :( Honoturtle 10-15-2002, 03:53 AM Originally posted by kicker1_solo sucks about school. :( Really does, I got 60 damn notecards due on Friday, this friday! And I haven't started!:(:( I mean it took me a damn while to finish 40 cards which was assigned about a mounth ago!!! magicmanjk808 10-15-2002, 03:56 AM Originally posted by Honoturtle Hmmm.................. Still thinking about it, what if I screw up so bad, I only have 1 dash!................ ever tried resin casting. you could make another dash and try to convert that one. then if you screw it up, no worries. Honoturtle 10-15-2002, 04:02 AM Originally posted by magicmanjk808 ever tried resin casting. you could make another dash and try to convert that one. then if you screw it up, no worries. Never tried resin casting model car parts before, I'm actually not even sure how to do it! Honoturtle 10-17-2002, 11:01 PM Hello, I worked on my car today for about an hour getting rid of the 1/4 moldings on it!! I also got rid of the water squirters. One piece of advice for anyone who plans to do the same, make sure you make the door panel lines deeper before you start chopping and sanding, the panel line on the 1/4 molding is more shallow than the rest of the door, so do them ahead of time so you don't have to create your own lines!! http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/381531ae8613.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/393258ae8614.jpg Well, that's all for now!! TougeMonkey 10-17-2002, 11:55 PM mmmmm Hachi Roku! Lovin the custom TRD spoiler! Can't wait to see the finished project. Honoturtle 10-18-2002, 04:38 AM I realize that I never did put up a pic of the car's actual ride height, well here's one, http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/971487ae8615.jpg Th car was dropped around 1/4" on all four corners, if anyone needs help on dropping their AE86, just ask;) *edit* notice I got little brake adapters behind the front brakes, I'm going to mount some disk brakes there when it's painted. By the way the mount was made out of scratch plastic! Honoturtle 10-19-2002, 02:58 AM I'm settled with the BRIDE seats! Still debating on weather to have the roll-cage or not.............. The dash will remain RHD, sadly. The light detail for this car sucks a$$(typical FUJIMI!!!!!!) Darn today I realized that I sanded too much from the sides, I'm missing parts of the side flare:( Added putty to fix the problem, and the corner of the spoiler cracked:mad:!!! I'll try to fix the car up by Sunday for some MaD mAn primering!!!!! Well that's about it! turbos86 10-19-2002, 03:10 AM Bride seats eh? hehehe Are you going to write the word Bride like 10 times on each seat, LOL:rolleyes: And why are your rims yellowish? Honoturtle 10-19-2002, 03:21 AM Originally posted by turbos86 Bride seats eh? hehehe Are you going to write the word Bride like 10 times on each seat, LOL:rolleyes: And why are your rims yellowish? Actually it's like 50 TIMES!!!!! Well, we'll see, I called them Bride seats cause I got the decal for um! They look exactly like the RECARO seats that come with the Fujimi ITR. As for the rims, like I said before, they were molded that way, but going to be painted white so don't worry! turbos86 10-19-2002, 03:47 AM I'm going to be making some Bride seats later as well, and I already got like 10 million "Bride" printed on decal paper! :smoker2: The rims, I was asking cause I have a set excatly like yours but molded in a very bright white. Honoturtle 10-21-2002, 02:15 AM Originally posted by turbos86 The rims, I was asking cause I have a set excatly like yours but molded in a very bright white. Turbos, do you have the 17" or 18" version???? Well as for updates, I got some Primer on the car, the spoiler needs some work, and I painted the interior flat black, I hope to throw some Gray paint on it, for a 2-tone interior. turbos86 10-21-2002, 03:03 AM I have the 17" and might be getting a set of 18" down the road. From the pics, the 18" look a lot bigger. Looking foward to more pics! Honoturtle 10-22-2002, 09:58 PM Hello all! Here's some pics for all of you who come to see this thread everyday to look for updates on my project!! http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/781487ae8616.jpg As you can see, I made modifications to the front lights for a more realistic look, I'm making bulbs at the moment. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/215645ae8617.jpg As you can see, the rims are also primered! http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/731804ae8618.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/771437ae8619.jpg Pic of front and back http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/322140ae8620.jpg And of course the top. Tell me what you guys think! All comments are appreciated:) kicker1_solo 10-22-2002, 11:38 PM looking hot :) turbos86 10-23-2002, 12:22 AM Love the under diff exhaust http://www3.telus.net/public/a4a91660/thumb.gif The car is getting better by the post, keep the pics coming:D Jonno 10-23-2002, 03:52 AM Love the under diff exhaust Yea, you wouldn't really wanna take the diff out (for some reason:confused: ). Looks great, hurry up and finish it, but on the otherhand, don't hurry and rush it. :p Honoturtle 10-24-2002, 02:52 AM Well glade too see you guys appreciate the Legedary AE86!!!! Muhahahahahahaah........ Thanks for the comments guys, I'm really not sure what you guys are talking about(diff exhaust) Well I changed like half the exhaust pipes today, the rear half was exchanged for a nicer looking pipe made from scratch, here's a pic, http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/969214ae8621.jpg All comments are appreciated, also Criticism ;) *edit* see my cool brakes? turbos86 10-24-2002, 02:59 AM By under diff, we mean under the rear differential. Fujimi had the differential molded to the under tray, so that's why thug said you wouldn't want to take out the diff. Good job so far! The metal color looks good. Mind sharing with us how you got the brakes in there? Home made brakes? Honoturtle 10-24-2002, 03:30 AM Originally posted by turbos86 By under diff, we mean under the rear differential. Fujimi had the differential molded to the under tray, so that's why thug said you wouldn't want to take out the diff. Good job so far! The metal color looks good. Mind sharing with us how you got the brakes in there? Home made brakes? Oh......... Well for the brakes, they came off a Fujimi ITR, I had them for spares after I modified the ITR's brakes. I'll try to explain how I did this, it's fairly easy. Front: It basically consist of 4 pieces of stylene(on each side), 3 of them were bent and cut out to look like the letter "L" then I cut out a round(somewhat) shape to connect to the "L's" to where you glue the brake on. Here's a pic, http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/243169ae8624.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/177973ae8625.jpg Like I said, 4 pieces. Here's what it is, piece "1" is the rounder piece where the brake makes it's contact to the assembly, pieces "2,3 and 4" are the "L's" which can vary in length depending on how far out you want the brakes to stick out. Make sense? Rear: It's basically the same as the front except, you glue the "L's" to only piece #A32 but you could do it on the other side if you want the brakes more "out." http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/133553ae8627.jpg In the pic, I listed numbers, "1" is the rounder piece, and "2,3 and 4" are the "L's" you could add another "L" in desired to the top of the assembly, but don't really have too. If you have any more questions or don't understand this thing, just ask;) Hopes this helps you on your project!! turbos86 10-24-2002, 01:53 PM Good explaination! That's pretty clever! I'd never think of doing that. I think I'm gonna do that when I build mine.:) Honoturtle 10-25-2002, 03:42 AM Answer fast!!!! If the body is white, interior is black/gray with white roll-cage, what color should the seat-belts be?? White? Blue?? Suggest any color that would match the car! turbos86 10-25-2002, 03:48 AM I say either Black, Red or Green (Takata) Honoturtle 10-25-2002, 08:58 PM Originally posted by turbos86 I say either Black, Red or Green (Takata) Anyone know where I can print out decals for the Takata ones? MonkeyMagic 10-26-2002, 08:10 AM thats a nice job on the moto car... i've seen moto's car like half a year ago at the drift day 2 meet and the inside of the car is all black/gray with i think a black sparco seat and black sablet seatbelt... heres the link to takata racing harnesses http://www.tein.co.jp/harnesse.html and heres a pic of my car hehehe:D nice to see more ppl getting to know the AE86 is not a ugly car http://img2.ranchoweb.com/images/monkiemagic/car2.jpg i got my 1985 zanki liftback in progress too maybe i'll post some pic when im done:D :D :D bibendumz 10-26-2002, 09:56 PM Good job!! i hoping to see the finished kit of yours. Well, in Singapore...i have waited for a few years to have AE86 kit. it was close to about S$50 few years ago...i did not buy it because it was way overpriced. just few months ago, i finally had a chance to buy it at less than S$20...i felt that the wait is worthwhile. initially, i do not have the slighest idea in building it but your pics serve as a good guideline for me. Thanks.:flamer: Honoturtle 11-22-2002, 02:48 AM Just to keep you guys interest up......... Looking forward to see the finishing pic!!!~:D slydar 03-11-2003, 06:19 PM umm not that it matters a whole lot, but an ae86 set up "correctly" would have a higher ride height in the back than the front, they handle better that way ;) ///Beck 03-13-2003, 01:14 AM whoa, nice shit man! They list their Tamiya Ferrari Enzo as $26, and not $45 like the Hobby Co. They have some good pricing compared to other shops! The only thing for me is the location. That's at least a 45 min drive out from Waialua, no? Or that would be quite a bus ride...... since I don't have a license yet. I'll give him a call tomorrow. Don't think I'll see you next week, I'm marching at a Parade in Waikiki to promote our Robotics team. But I find little time to certain things on the car, like puttying, sanding etc. And as my name stated "honoturtle" which represents my pace in building cars. Ask any of the members that been around for at least a year, and they'll tell you how many projects I've started and still haven't completed, just to name a few: 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R, 1967 Ford Mustang GT-500 Conversion with 427 Cobra Jet motor. Anyways guys, expect to see a "finished" thread by the end of this month or the beginning of July, since this car is in "first priority" to be completed. I hope next week I'll have enough time to "complete" the puttying jobs. IwannaDRift 06-28-2003, 03:24 AM Nice to see some peeps from Hawaii... Yeah, Mechahawaii is awesome and cheap.. The good thing is that if someone made one without the middle part of the light, that's where it cracked. BTW, I already have this in the classifieds. Blowncivic1320 06-28-2003, 07:02 PM looks good, that sux about the light though. And how did you get the Takata decals on the ribbons. I was gonna rip some harnesses out of a 1/24 Viper and spray them green... The new spoiler is made out of my styrene stock, and Tamiya 2-part epoxy, the old one is out of styrene (very little) and red putty, that's why it wasen't that good, the new one is 10X stronger. The ribbon is from my local Longs Drugs store in the "crafts" section, they come in many different colors. And for the decal, I printed them out with a picture I recieved from turbos86. Dorikin 07-09-2003, 09:33 AM Sweet. Im looking at investiing in decal paper. Im looking for Styrene sheets to make the spoiler, I think I got a line on some. Also I may put in a 20V 4AG-E motor, once I get the parts that I've traded with another member. FYI, right now I've been working mostly on the 69 Camaro because I got a contest to make which I would like that car to be an entry into the detailed class. Thanks for the support, I'm glad there are still people keeping an eye on this thread, as I WILL complete this car, don't worry just wait until you see the "Finished" thread. Re037, as meantioned the car is on the Levins Chassis, but I'll see if I can cut a couple of parts off the Truenos box to get some pics. sengming, the Trueno shown is from an Initial D box, but I also bought a Tohge series Trueno and it came with the same body including only the old model front bumper even though they advertise a different model on the box & instructions. Same happen with the MR-2, it was just the same mold as the Intial D one, so it ended up having the same body. *edit* Forgot to mention that the suspension has been dropped, and extensive modification was used to drop the rear since I kinda messed up the rear end, I'll get pics of it. When I start the Trueno progress (probably after I complete this car  ), I'll do a better way of lowering the car and do a little write-up, as for the Levin, the front has been lowered very oddly since I re-mounted the chassis, but for the back, it's simple just glue the little axle "locators" a different position rather than making it flush. ///Beck 08-19-2003, 03:47 AM whoa man... I luv ur wing so nice! but I dun wanna redo mine, HA! great job :) Honoturtle 01-15-2004, 01:21 AM Sorry for bringing up this old thread, but I want to update you guys on what's going on, and what my plans are. CURRENT STATUS - As I type this, the car has several layers of Tamiya Pure White. There has been some chipping near a panel line and sanding lines, which is why I let it go for a while. I would like to thank Henry (turbos86) for giving me his front grille piece, to replace my cracked one. PLANS - Tonight I hope to sand down the chips and attempt to make everything smooth. Since I relize it really isn't a replica of Moto-P's car (different front bumper) I decided to tweak it a bit. First off, I'll no longer have my poor roll-cage, also I'm thinking a carbon-fiber bonnet. The exhaust is being replaced with a smaller size (same as my tutorial). I plan to complete this car before Febuary 1st in time for a local contest (the 510 too). And will get started on a new Levin thereafter (Coupe, will be gunmetal). Here are some pics I took, and I hope you enjoy viewing them. I look foward to my finish product! http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=500/35516levin1.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=500/35516levin2.jpg Close up of chips... :( http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=500/35516levin3.jpg Layla's Keeper 01-15-2004, 02:26 AM Real drift machines have chips and cracks, too.
