What weight of oil is recommended for an 88 Camry? Would 20/40 Penzoil be OK?:feedback:

I'd use 10W30. Toshiro is no fool.

The manual for my 87 lists 6 different recommended viscocities ranging from 5w30 to 20w50 depending on expected ambient temperatures. They don't make it easy. For temps over 80 deg f use 20w50 or 10w50. For temps below 50 deg F use 5w30 or 10w30 or 15w40. 20w40 or 10w40 is for temps anywhere between. I live in a desert region and use 20w50 during the summer and 10w40 during the winter.

Just remember you want "thicker" oil in the summer and "thinner" oil during the winter. The higher the number the thicker the oil.

I have a 2004 Camry with an 2AZ-FE engine with 62K on it and was wondering if I would be better served with 5-30 synthetic or just keep using regular crude oil. Oil has never missed a 3K change interval so far. What does anyone reccomend?

Toyota now recommends 5W-20 synthetic for 2AZ-FE (sticky thread at top of forum):

Good Choice. I used to run Mobil 1 or Castrol syntec but started pissing oil everywhere so I went to syntec blend it's great and jolly now and cheaper! But i run 10-30 and mine is a 99 Camry V6(1M-fe) with 122,530miles on it.

What do you reckon caused it to start spraying oil everywhere? I have no leaks, and the engine is bone dry on the outside. All seals are excellent, etc.

I guess it's high milage. I also put it in 5w-30 and it leaked went to 10w-30 was better but it just used/leaked some. I went to synthetic blend and have no issues whatsoever. I think it was it's sudden change over. I guess i should have gone to synthetic blend first. Not sure really.
