Had a issue with cam sensors failing over and over on a 01 330i.

Does anyone know if the Vanos system can cause these sensors to fail to point where they need to be replaced over and over? Had 4 replaced in 3 months and now the car is out of warranty, dealership is saying the Vanos needs to be replaced.
