Changing Doors On A Lumina Ltzjulie1972 03-13-2007, 01:02 PM Has anyone changed a driver side door on a lumina? Ours was hit and insurance is totalling so we are fixing ourselves. Checking to see if it is going to need something major. maxwedge 03-13-2007, 01:47 PM Welcome to AF. A complete door from a salvage yard is the way to go, must be more though for a total. Read the adjusters appraisal for the repair details. What is actually your question. julie1972 03-13-2007, 02:31 PM Our car was totalled because we had a previous hail damage claim that American Family automatically takes off the value. The door was wrecked in a slow speed crash. But I am afraid that if he takes the door off he will find it hard to put the new one on. julie1972 03-13-2007, 02:33 PM we plan to remove the 4 bolts attached to the frame not the bolts from the door (because of the spring) and them rerun the wiring for the locks to the control in the panel. I just don't want to get in the middle of it and find out we need to compact a spring or something else that needs major tools (other than a wrench and screwdriver maxwedge 03-13-2007, 06:18 PM How about the the door key lock in that door, it will not match the key. julie1972 03-14-2007, 12:46 PM I have the automatic opener but still I dont mind the slight inconvience of having two keys for car doors. To change the lock they are only charging $50. Better than having no car. gw84 03-14-2007, 07:12 PM My LTZ was hit in the driver's door, but it happened before I was the registered owner..thank goodness!! Anyway, whoever repaired it, put a new door on there (they left the sticker with a different VIN number on the door and painted around it). I'd just find a door from the junkyard and take it to a repair shop and see what they'd charge to "install" it. I can't imagine putting a door on would cost much. By the way, since it's an LTZ, it has body colored mirrors, so you might have to have the mirror repainted. Shouldn't the [at fault] driver be responsible for fixing the damage?
