98 camry rear speaker removalonceagen 03-06-2007, 11:32 PM I'm chasing speaker wires in search of a short to ground. Do the rear speaker covers in the passenger compartment remove as a unit, or are they attached to the shelf carpeting? What steps can I follow to get the speakers, or get to the wires? I'll let you know how things resolve. Thaanks for your help! I am new to the forum and VERY impressed. You are a great community. Ed onceagen Daniel M. You can see the bottom of the speakers and the wire terminations from inside the trunk. To remove the speakers, you need to lift out the rear bench seat, remove the side bolsters, and remove the parcel shelf. The grilles are attached and not removable. onceagen 07-24-2008, 12:28 PM == Don't overlook the obvious. You can see the bottom of the speakers and the wire terminations from inside the trunk. It turns out that overpacking the trunk did disrupt the right rear speaker wires, short out the speaker and fry the radio. I wasn't interested in removing the rear seat and shelf to pull and replace the speaker, so I've only in the past months completely disconnected the troubled speaker and replaced the radio with an aftermarket unit.
