How are you guys displaying your models, you guys that build large scale models? I am looking for a way to display my 1/24, 1/25, and 1/12 scale models. I am having trouble finding one that will be large enough to display the big kits nicely. The best I have found, without spending a fortune anyway, is this one from IKEA:
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15561&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=11638&langId=-1&categoryId=15645&chosenPartNumber=10011055
It looks decent, but it is going to be a really close fit.
What are you guys doing?

Hello,

I don't know if your talking about display case or only cabinets, but I use to put each of my model in a display case from Schucco (Germany).
I find them on www.nimpex.de
I think you'd better speak german to contact them cos' they don't speak english (nor french BTW :disappoin )
one 1/24 case cost around 9 euros.

hope it helps

Thanks Phil. I am actually trying to consolidate them so I am not always buying new cases. Plus I have 4 1/12 scale models built now. The big cases get really expensive.

I have set up a couple of those Ikea units for friends, they let a lot of dust in as the corners are open.
For my own display, I had some large curio style cabinets made. They hold 1/8 scale and smaller great. Expensive, yes, but well worth it... - Mark

Hi,

I also looked at those cabinets. Here the little problem is the gap around the door, where dust comes inside.
I have a similar one, also gaps around the doors, however, my models are in display boxes. Those are hard to find for 1:12 cars.

I know this sounds really tacky, but has anyone tried running a small strip of weatherstripping or something similar along the pieces of glass to solve the dust problem?

I have two of those for my models. I like them a lot, even though they do let dust in. I don't mind going in and brushing the dust off my cars though, part of the fun of having them is getting to look at them and see how far I've come. The dust problem isn't even all that bad, yeah they'll get dusty but it's a lot better than if they were just hanging out.

As for the size, I just put my 1:12 NSX body in my cabinet to check it out for you. It fits, with probably an inch or so from each corner to the glass (it's in there at an angle), so I don't know how well your 1:12 American cars would fit. Inside dimensions are 13 1/4" deep, and 15 1/4" wide.

he he - I keep mine in shoe boxes in the cellar or give them away.
Much cheaper and makes my friends happy :)

I got my display case from a nail salon. They were just trowing it away! Its one of those big displays like you see in stores. Maybe you could do the same as I did, and look around your area and ask if the store manangers if they have any old displays they are going to throw out.

Like Daki, I got lucky and bought a professionally made display case from a hobby store that was remodelling. Its sealed well enough to keep dust out, has its own lighting, and is large enough for quite a few models.
